Spades_Neil Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 My friend is having a lot of connectivity issues with his copy of FC2. It's a fresh install, I patched it for him (or so I would hope), and when we try to play online, this is where the trouble starts. We tried a LAN game first. My game never showed up on his network. I was hosting it, and he couldn't see it. Weird, we thought. So we troubleshot the internet. Yea, he can access the internet. Firefox works. Then we tried searching for an internet game... He saw two internet games. That's it. Nothing else. Yet on the same network, I was looking at dozens and dozens of servers! So it's not a network issue. Plus he's still having this problem at his father's house. What could be happening here? We also disabled his firewall to see if that effected it. Same results. Nothing changed. :(

Did you try to conect using the IP number instead of the "lobby" where all the network games are published? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Did you try to conect using the IP number instead of the "lobby" where all the network games are published? Yes. That had an error like, "Exception Error" or something like that. I can't remember the error offhand. One of my friends thought port forwarding might be an issue. I beg to differ as I can connect online just fine with my copy of the game.

Exception error sound like a windows error to me! Let´s go from the beginning! Are you absolutely sure that both are running the same version of FC2? Open the Editor, and then go to HELP-ABOUT THE GAME (or something like that) to make sure that you applied the patch correctly. Since you are both in the same network, you should "see" him. Open a command line (CMD depending on your SO) and then type ping X.X.X.X, replace the X´s with your friends IP number. You should see something like "Replay from X.X.X.X bytes=32 time=XX" If not, the problem it´s not from the sim, it´s in your network configuration. Both computer are connected though the same router? Did you try to connect with other sim or game? I´m asking all this stupids questions coz I install the game, set up a LAN with another version running on a second computer and started working right the way! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
shu77 Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 anti virus firewall? something with 'Internet security' in it perhaps, given its happening on multiple networks. The alternate would perhaps be a corrupt TCP/IP connection stack. Happens every now and then and creates all sorts of wacky issues. It's not like the game crashed and a popup appeared. Either way, next time he's around, I'll have to double-check the patch.

One of my friends thought port forwarding might be an issue. I beg to differ as I can connect online just fine with my copy of the game. I am little confused. LAN, you would be on the same internal network, if you are not you need to use Internet option only. To Host a game, you need to port foward port 10308 on your router. (Google). If he could only see 2 servers, then make sure he is patched.

For a LAN game this issue should be non-existent, but I'm suspecting that I screwed up the patch somehow when I installed it, so I have to wait and see what the heck is wrong.
pumkindrvr Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 I had the same problem. If you only see a few servers, you are not patched. I uninstalled game, reinstalled and downloaded patch again to be sure I did not have a bad file. Then it worked correctly.

I'm making him check his game as soon as possible.
636_Castle Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Try using a program called Hamachi for your LAN games. It allows you to be on a virtual local network and even installs a fake network adapter in Windows. Whenever me and my clan are having connectivity issues, especially with FSX and GameSpy, we use it. If you need help setting it up, let me know. ** Hamachi's Website ** P.S. ECV56_Finger - that's an awesome signature! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] How To Fix Your X-52's Rudder!
