Cavinca Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 This mission is kicking my behind. I have gone from 95% mission success, and obtained 6 campaign deaths. The mission is in the stock campaign, and it is the mission where you attack 6 supply, ordenance vehicles. Can anyone give me pointers? Ive tried all kinds of tactics. altitudes, stand off distances, ecm, auto flare/chaff on approach and departures:joystick:. I am just stuck. If i have for the most part avoided the snow drifts and there sa-11s . And yes i am a noob:D
Jinro Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 I admit that I played with invincibility on, but I don't recall ever being hit by anything in that mission. I usually try to locate and destroy all AAA batteries with my Mavericks first.
Cavinca Posted September 3, 2010 Author Posted September 3, 2010 I finally had to cut labels on, and then I completed the objective. Turned onto my home base vector and got nailed by a strela. One engine down and no electronics. Limped my way back home. Jettisoned extra stores. 6km out on glide scope, looked to my 9:00 just in time to see a SA-11 1.2 km away. :helpsmilie: Ejected, lived, and the campaign when to another mission. 6a. Does the campaign have alternate mission tree? Like a pilot fails mission 6a so the campaign switches to the 6b limb of the tree? BTW i racked up 16 deaths and over 30 ejections on that one mission.
Jinro Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 I'm really not sure about the way the campaign works. I know I went through them to change the weather (I hate winter) and the aircraft skins (the "Flipper" skin is ugly as hell, and "AFRES" disbanded in the early '90s, so having that pasted on the engine is just stupid). I know that in the A10 campaign, as long as you destroy your designated targets, even if you get shot down afterward you can still continue to the next mission. The F15 campaign on the other hand, requires that you RTB in order to get 100% complete.
nomdeplume Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 You only need >50% in order to progress to the next mission, and you can press ' (apostrophe) during the mission to check your score. However the scoring itself is arbitrary, i.e. up to the mission designer, so there's no guarantee about when the points will actually be awarded. The campaign engine is very simple - it has a number of stages, each of which contain one or more missions. When you enter a stage, one of those missions is selected at random. If your mission score when you exit the mission is below 50%, you will go back to the previous stage in the campaign (or fail the campaign if you're in the first stage). If your score is above 50% you'll go to the next stage (or win if it was the last stage). If your score is exactly 50%, you'll stay in the same stage, and the game will pick a different mission from that stage. The campaign system does allow for one slight complication here: you can assign a band of scores for which a mission is valid. However this doesn't seem to be used much, probably because you can't use it with repeating missions. I think all the stages in the A-10 campaign just have one or two missions across the entire score range. So, if you do find a mission particularly difficult, you could try running it for a bit, check your score is 50%, and then exit. You should then get the other mission in the same stage, which might be easier. There is also some kind of built-in thing, I think, to avoid having you fail if you immediately exit a mission. So you might need to give it a few seconds or minute or so before you exit.
Jinro Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 I'm always having problems with the F15 campaign--I'll start a mission, then life interrupts and I have to quit, which makes my success rate drop >:(
Rider1 Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 I finally had to give up on the Oil War SU25Tcampaign. I have played the first 3 or 4 missions over and over all summer. One step forward and two steps back. Get shot down and try to just re-fly the mission? Nope.. Go back one first.. Life happens and you have to quit a mission? Go back one. Forget to change to your favorite load out after hitting fly? Forget it. You hit End for anything.. go back another one.. This would work out a lot better if you could quick save at any point in the mission and continue after you got things sorted out... As it is now. I just don't have any more time or patience for that. For the A10 Missions.. What I that found works for me is to attack from the rear. I stay as far to the right and as I can, as close to the mountains as possible. Work the air defenses on that right flank first, so you have a clear path to use when going back if you need to rearm. Hug that right flank, stay low, below the LOS of the long range SAMS over the far mountains on the left. Once you get behind the red defenses you will be in a large flat valley you can use to stage your hit and run attacks from behind. I just use a big counter clockwise circle attack, always clearing back to the left and then out to the valley to set up another run..
