Jinro Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 Yeah--I figured turning off the engine would work, but if it's the right engine, both engines shut down..... Is there some way to pull the handle that says "ENGINE FIRE PULL THIS!"?
GhostDog Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 I assume you're talking about the A-10. You can shut down one engine at a time. To shut down the left engine, hit RAlt + End. To shut down the right engine, hit RCtrl + End. RShift + End shuts down both engines simultaneously. nomdeplume Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 Also the extinguishers fire automatically. They don't always extinguish the fire, of course, but usually they do. I'm not quite sure what happens if it remains burning. I think it creates a (small?) chance of the aircraft spontaneously exploding while the engine is burning, and I used to bail whenever the fire didn't go out. When I was testing a mission on the weekend, a MANPADS got me and set my right engine on fire, which didn't go out. I flew home and landed, with it burning all the way. So now I'm not sure. Maybe I just got lucky.
Jinro Posted September 23, 2010 Author Posted September 23, 2010 I would assume that shutting down that engine would cut fuel flow, thus protecting it from exploding... I must have hit Shift+End then.....
mvsgas Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 I think it depends on the aircraft. For example , the 25/25T I have been able to shut a specific engine and blow the fire out with engine spooling. I have more difficulty doing this with the other aircraft. Not sure if any of it is modeled in FC2. I think with DCS A-10C, we will see more realistic fire or engine malfunctions. For example fire extinguishers should work, and I will assume you would have the ability to blow a fire out my motoring (spinning the engine with APU) To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
nomdeplume Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 It's possible shutting down helps, as I do do that out of habit. But the lack of any kind of feedback from the game makes me wonder if it actually does anything. Next time I'll try to see if it makes an appreciable difference to fuel flow, assuming I'm not leaking.
