Am I correct in assuming this is possible in the mission editor by individually editing the separate mission files for more client aircraft?

 

Has anyone done this? Any bugs to be aware of?

I haven't done it, but:

 

a) make sure you copy the original mission file and edit the copy of it.

b) the missions may be too easy for multiplayer players, unless you add more enemies

c) there's going to be triggers tied to the player aircraft.

 

The last one is what might trip you up. For example, in many missions you receive information as you approach the target area. If you don't make any other changes, then only the player flying in the slot of the original aircraft will trigger those actions. This can be a problem if that player isn't good at doing what the mission designer expected them to do (which might well occur in a multiplayer game); or if that player is shot down etc.

 

Duplicating those triggers and making them working properly in a MP environment may be non-trivial, but it depends on the complexity of the mission.
