Frostie Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 It would be appreciated if somebody could clear up the following. Raytheon delivered 160+ APG-63(v)1 and 18 APG-63(v)2 systems to be fitted on F-15C/D units. Does this mean that the remaining 700+ F-15C's are still flying with APG-63 PSP with the poor RAM function instead of TWS? Wasn't the RAM function deleted from all F-15's or kept in those above? What I can make out from this at the moment is that TWS is only a function on less than 200 F-15C's. Seems logical. "[51☭] FROSTIE" #55 'Red 5'. vanir Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 According to Janes 409 F-15C were delivered to the USAF (61 Ds). The last 43 (MSIP series) were fitted with the AN/APG-70 from the strike eagle. That would make about half the Eagle force with upgraded radars.
GGTharos Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 No, actually APG-63 upgrades were part of the MSIP and MSIP II programs. I have an exact timeline of all improvements up to '85 I think but I don't have them handy. The document has to do with APG-63 maintenance, but it lists a lot of things. All radars received various upgrades based on a schedule, including the PSP, RAM (as in memory) upgrades, system capability upgrades including multiple AMRAAM guidance capability BEFORE '86 IIRC, as well as some pretty insane ECM/ECCM and EID capabilities*. The (v1) upgrade had actually more to do with materials and manufacturing methods relating to maintenance. The aforementioned upgrades were a direct result of the PSP and RAM upgrades, allowing for expanded software capability. The current eagles (known as Golden Eagles) are all being retrofitted with APG-63(v3) which is an AESA radar and according to what I've heard has some pretty insane capabilities on top of the original package. There are a few other things that I saw but I was just told that they do 'fun things' when I asked about them. The Strike Eagle is getting the APG-82, aka APG-63(v4). * GG's understanding. Your mileage may vary :P It would be appreciated if somebody could clear up the following. Raytheon delivered 160+ APG-63(v)1 and 18 APG-63(v)2 systems to be fitted on F-15C/D units.
