I'm still having issues with coordinates I get from JTAC. The simple mission I setup to test it only gives me GF30880 as a grid ref. When I try to enter that I get a CDU INPUT ERROR.

Please help!

Add a leading zero: GF030880

That easy huh?

Could you explain the mechanics behind it? Normal grid coord is 10 digits and this was 5. Just interested.

With the price of ammunition these days do not expect a warning shot.

It's just different levels of precision. The grid squares can be different sizes; smaller sizes require more digits to identify them.

For the input side of things, the CDU seems to require an equal number of digits for both the northings and the eastings, which is a reasonable requirement. I don't know whether leaving off the leading 0's when speaking coordinates is common or not.

The wikipedia page goes into it in quite a bit of detail: Military_grid_reference_system

If you enter two digits XX AB then the grid coordinates will assume XX XXA000B000. If you enter four digits XX AB CD then grid coordinates assume XXAB00CD00. Six digits XX ABCDEF then XXABC0DEF0.
