Greb Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 (edited) So I am reading up on Smart Bombs...Laser Guided this and radar dropping that. Watched a couple of vids on You Tube. Was kind of getting it down in between the yawning. I started thinking about the A model. Yeah she was Disco like the 70's and all but flying her is like getting in a knife fight in a phone booth. Yeah the Mav's were still there, but you had to get low and dirty with your General Purpose weapons. So I decided to create a mission in memory of the ol' Girl! Take off from Runway right on the coastline. You are carrying a lot of ordinance and will take the whole runway to get to speed. I use steer 2 to get speed, Steer 3 to get altitude and 4 to setup run. If you follow your waypoints you will get right to heart of battle. I grab for air just before end of way 3 and turn into 4 at 5 thousand. You get 2 Mavs so use them wisely. There are some surprises so don't get slack. I use Mav's headed in. If I don't get the second one off I skip it and go to Bombs. The combat zone is large and there is a lot of fighting going on below USA forces against Russians. Americans hold the South and Russians hold the north. Lots of tanks and surprises. This is old school A model fighting so you have to get in low and dirty. You can use labels to see the line in the sand, but I would only use it for reference, much easier to target without them. Lots of smoke and rounds going off. You will see it before you get there. Try not to get lost in the show. Although its cool to see the fight and then see your wingy working targets, there is stuff that can bite ya if ya aint looking! Good Luck! .....u gonna need it! Edit: Listing a Lite version. Some may find trouble running all that on that map. I cut the forces in half. Also added a few pics from mission, give ya layout of the area. Then on the Tarmac.....She is just SOOOO Pretty in Green!A10A Remembered.zipA10A Rememberedlite.zip Edited October 29, 2010 by Greb

Poor mans sniper Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 He, thanks for reminding me how I can't even get a kill with the A-10s gun in LOMAC. I need ALOT more practice.
Greb Posted October 29, 2010 Author Posted October 29, 2010 (edited) Yeah its even more intense in the C! I have this mission for FC2 if any want it. It's my favorite to fly. You gonna be a button pushing monkey! Mission of above is for DCS A10C just in case ya missed it! Edited October 29, 2010 by Greb
gekoiq Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 He, thanks for reminding me how I can't even get a kill with the A-10s gun in LOMAC. I need ALOT more practice. Man, with the GAU8 in LOMAC i could smoke T80's like cheap cigars. It's much harder but still doable in DCS:WH. More like a fine A.Fuente when you get one to go up in smoke :D

Greb Posted October 29, 2010 Author Posted October 29, 2010 (edited) Damn you! Any tips? Sniper what joystick are you using? Mine has a two position trigger. Press half way locks the gun and it sticks to target, pull all the way and the gun fires. Be switched to Gunpac for that option. Location of rounds shot plays a part. Rear and sides are weaker then front on tanks. I try to come in at 2000 feet and drop on Target. Here's a trick! When you come in on target hit the Autopilot switch, making sure first it is set in path mode. Let the plane trim out for a second and then turn off the Autopilot and the plane is trimmed to your gunsight! Less movement when in close! It will also keep you from dropping a wing when you pull out hard close to the ground. She'll bounce back easier if she is trimmed into the run! MOST of all it takes a lot of practice. Just keep shooting and stay on your perch! Edited October 29, 2010 by Greb
gekoiq Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Damn you! Any tips? To build on what Greb said: Put 150-200rds on target. These are modern main battle tanks, they can take hits from certain ATGMs and survive, your little puny 30 mike mike rounds aren't going to do a thing unless they hit en masse (or you get really really lucky). Get in close, <1NM, from the rear or from a very steep dive. Hold the trigger for a full 2 seconds and do your best to let the pipper rest on the tank, be patient, even with PAC1 on the pipper will 'bounce' while the stabilizers kick in and bring it back down to your original point of aim. I'm still perfecting my form as well, but I'm getting better. Practice makes perfect.
Grimes Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 I kinda hope the 3rd party cockpit mod tools get released. I'd love to see someone re-create the A-10A cockpit and avionics, then just copy over most of the A-10C flight model. But TGP-less missions are a decent enough substitute for now. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. Greb Posted October 29, 2010 Author Posted October 29, 2010 Column Hunt! Got some surprises! Great for honing your Bomb, Rocket, and Gun skills! You get 6 Mav's....you'll use them. No Smart Bombs! You are gonna be throwing Rocks after the Mav's! Just the way I like it!A10A Remembered2.zip

You nailed it Grimes! Don't get me wrong I love the Tech Bombs and I am glad we have them for our real Pilots and Planes, but I like to be aggressive. Gunfighter in the Street kind of thing. You may walk away beaten up, or even wind dead, but if you want to return to base ....you're gonna earn it! Plus they are just damn fun! Good to get aggression out! I got some more like this I am working on but with some SAM's tossed in.
