Conure Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 (edited) Hi all, I've been away from the sim a good 3 months and have just returned as RL work commitments have settled down at last! Before getting back into the sim, I am ashamed to admit that my Russian/Georgian history is a little weak (nonexistent)... Is there anywhere I could read an outline of the conflict that the campaign depicts? Other than that, I see the A-10 beta is out. How is it looking? (stupid question as it's obviously great).. Quick other question..Last time I played my PC was a wreck. I've tidied it up a lot..Specs are as follows: q6600 @ 2.4ghz, gtx 260 with 896mb video ram, and 4gb ddr2 ram @ 1066ghz (or something similar). Do you think I could enable AA and AF with this system? If so, how can I do it as there areno in game options, I presume there is an external program to force it? Thanks for any advice :) Hope you are all well! Con (p.s ED - Please please please make us a civilian flight sim. I just read a bit about their new 'Microsoft Flight'...Not impressed  ) Edited November 2, 2010 by Conure Intel i7 6700k, Asus GTX1070, 16gb DDR4 @ 3200mhz, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Rudder Pedals, Samsung Evo 850 SSD @ 500GB * 2, TrackIR 5 and 27" monitor running at 2560 * 1440, Windows 10.
power5 Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Russia is fighting Georgia. Thats all I know. I would over clock your CPU. Nvidia driver program will allow you to force AA. DCS will not likely release a civilian sim ever. Just go up without weapons and its the same thing I guess. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Aaron i7 2600k@4.4ghz, GTX1060-6gb, 16gb DDR3, T16000m, Track IR5 BS2-A10C-UH1-FC3-M2000-F18C-A4E-F14B-BF109
Conure Posted November 2, 2010 Author Posted November 2, 2010 (edited) Cool, thank you for the info :-) Do you think I could OC my CPU even on a stock fan? It's nto very big and idles at about 38oC! My mobo has some auto overclock feature which goes up in 5% increments, but am slightly paranoid about breaking it! Think it'll really make a big difference? Couple more questions have come up that I'd been meaning to ask! First...How far away can the shark be heard in quietish conditions? I know I am way beyond the weapon range of most of my enemies most of the time, but I was curious about whether or not they're even aware I'm there. The reason I ask is because I saw a video of an Apache attacking insurgents, and they didn't even seem to be aware it was there - I'd imagine the twin turbines of the Shark are not quiet! Secondly, does anybody have a range chart of typical enemies? I'm never sure at what range it is safe to engage! Thanks :) Edited November 2, 2010 by Conure Intel i7 6700k, Asus GTX1070, 16gb DDR4 @ 3200mhz, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Rudder Pedals, Samsung Evo 850 SSD @ 500GB * 2, TrackIR 5 and 27" monitor running at 2560 * 1440, Windows 10.
power5 Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 (edited) Is your fan controllable? If not, Grab one with a rheostat so you can crank it. Or pick up a CPU cooler. They can be had for less than $30 for a decent one. What are you using to measure idle temp? I use coretemp and my 3.4ghz e4300 (stock 1.8ghz) idles at 38c-41c. On a large aftermarket HS of course. OC will cause problems if not stable and not kept cool. But, my OC has been rock solid since install over 3 and a half years ago. Let that 5% deal crank up until you are hitting 65c under load. That has always been my limit. 3ghz should be safe and will be a big improvement. Some of the enemy stats can be found in the encyclopedia in game. Or you can google them. Trial and error has been my method. :D :music_whistling::pilotfly:New toy just came in sorry, Gotta jet.
