I'm running Lock on v1.02 on Win 7 64 bit and the framerate is between 16 to 70 FPS, which is pretty terrible.

Here are my System Specs:

HD 5850 1GB GDDR5

AMD 965 phenom II 3.4Ghz Quad core

4GB DDR3 1600MHZ RAM

I feel my system should be capable of running a 7 year old game maxed out at a constant 60FPS. Is this because of the game engine ?

If so, is there a mod/fix that I can download to solve the problem ?

They way Lock-On was programmed makes the simulation very heavy on the CPU, not that much on the video card. Later versions like Flaming Cliffs were a little less demanding, and it was not before the rise of the DCS series (with a new engine) that the CPU bottleneck was improved.

Your system looks good, and 70 FPS is a good result. You may want to tune your settings concerning the ground environment / objects, which are the ones that drop your FPS. Also heat blur (exhaust effect) and heavy cloud settings may cause FPS drops. Try to avoid flying over cities, the number of ground objects are known frame killers.

kind regards,

If shutterings are really pissing you off try set maximum FPS option in graphics.cfg - then drops from example 40 to 20 won't be so noticeable.

Also remember - it doesn't matter you have 60 or 600 FPS, so don't bother if you see "only" 60 :)

You can try to use mods for water, various tweaks. Try lockonfiles.com, you can also browse forum, there were some topics about FPS matters.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D
