I'm using the Elite RCS pedals through my cougar base along with the warthog. The pedals work but i'm not getting even performance from them. 1: They don't seem to be centered. 2: Yaw left is good but Yaw right isn't even ( 50% -|- 15%). I'm not sure what to do about remedying this. Are the pots or Pot shot or needs cleaning, or is there something software side that can be done? Any help would be great and very much appreciated. Thanks.

Check to see if you can't just reset the calibration data for the axis first, you may have some bogus data stored that's affecting it (it seems, that calibration in Windows typically stores 3 values for an axis, a min value, center value, and max value, so it can certainly influence action along part or all of just half the axis range).

It's a logitech app, but I've used it to fiddle with the axis of my warthog. It just crashes on me in Vista when I try to save profiles in the app, but the things that apply to the joysticks immediately such as applying changes or resetting to defaults work fine for me.

If after that, and testing within this tool itself (which will help show you the raw data from the hardware vs. the scaled data used by DirectX), you may be able to see more precisely where problems are and if they seem to be in the hardware or your OS.

If you can t solve it think about :

cubpilotshangar.net

That will likely solve all your problems, but the Gameport to USB problem.

I've never calibrated them in Windows. The only calibration I've done is through the cougar control panel's calibration since they are gameported through the cougar base. I can try to recalibrate in windows or erase the previous calibration data and recalibrate.

I'm hoping it's a software issue and not a pot issue. Last time I cleaned a pot I borked it and had to wait for new ones.

You don't have to calibrate many USB devices in windows, a lot are self-calibrating, that doesn't mean data hasn't been stored in the registry which is wonky though. I'm also not sure how the pedals represent themselves, whether they'd show up as a separate device (the cougar base acts as a hub) or if it just extends the configuration of the cougar.

Check it out with that app anyway - I should have mentioned the name of it in my original post, dxtweak2 - it's better than randomly wiping out bits of the registry or making changes through the Control Panel > Game Controllers applet (which seems to be hit and miss).

Did you setup a curve and deadzone in TARGET with the Elites? I'm using Elites too and they work great with the HW (through the Cougar base). Of course, I have the Hall Sensor mod from Cubby for mine, but none the less...

See if you have enough deadband, curve and what kind of values you see in the analyzer while running your TARGET script.

If the pot is off-center you should be able to adjust it (see Cubby's site for instructions how to open your peds), and if your pot is shot I'd definitely consider buying a HS mod for your pedals to remedy the problem (also Cubby's site).

I think i fixed it. I guess i just needed to mess around with the calibration from within the cougar control panel. For some reason when I had my calibration data set to auto at load up i was getting this unequal axis response, but what I did was to set my calibration to manual and apply manual calibration data i had stored and set my it to manual calibration at startup and now my pedals are extremely responsive throughout the entire Z axis left and right of center.

Thanks so much for you help guys.. really appreciate it.
