WynnTTr Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 I'm in the process of choosing a new gpu. I've always been an Nvidia boy but the thought of being able to run Eyefinity as opposed to SLI is a big factor in my book. I've always preferred a single card v multiple ones. Less fiddling and more compatibility. Anyone running a single 6970 Eyefinity with 3 monitors (3x 1920x1200)? Want to get an idea of what to expect realistically.
RSharpe Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 I wondering if it's really enough horsepower. Frankly I think you'll need at least two 6970 to do the job across 3 X 1920x1200. I'm moving to 580s in SLI in the new year.

Hmm.. yeah I was hoping that the 2Gb on the 6970 would be enough to turn on some AA on max settings.
RSharpe Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Too much monitor for a card not really built for the purpose.
power5 Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Wouldnt the 5970 be a better card? Should be quite a bit more powerful than the 6970 since it has dual GPU. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Aaron i7 2600k@4.4ghz, GTX1060-6gb, 16gb DDR3, T16000m, Track IR5 BS2-A10C-UH1-FC3-M2000-F18C-A4E-F14B-BF109
JG27_Arklight Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 (edited) Too much monitor for a card not really built for the purpose. Eyefinity is one of the 6970's purposes. One of the 5XXX and 6XXXs major selling points is Eyefinity capability. To say that it is "Too much monitor for a card not really built for the purpose", is a little off. People seem to forget that simulators are usually not putting as much stress on a videocard as some of the more "modern" FPS's. Triple monitor for DCS A-10 is not nearly as hardware intensive as say a Metro 2033 or Stalker : CoP. Wouldnt the 5970 be a better card? Should be quite a bit more powerful than the 6970 since it has dual GPU. That depends on whether or not the game utilizes Crossfire. If a game does not use/take advantage of CFX, than you are essentially running 1/2 of the 5970. Being a dual GPU solution does not mean you are automatically getting 2x the power of a single GPU solution.
