Bahger Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 I'm surprised there is no ranging tool in the ME map. I'm looking to place a Red artillery unit that can lob shells out to 56,000m. This may be preposterous, as I do not know much about artillery capabilities but the lack of available info on-map in the ME and in the Encyclopedia hardly helps, unfortunately. Can anyone give me an assist? It also appears that the "Attack point" task will not alert the mission designer to an out-of-range condition. All of the above might be worthy of the devs' attention but for the time being I'd appreciate an assist with plotting arty ranges so that I do not have to trial-and-error my way through it, many thanks.
nomdeplume Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 There's a ruler tool under the "MAP" section of the toolbar, right at the bottom. Click on it, then left-click and drag anywhere on the map to measure the distance and angle between two points. Additionally, I've seen in the mission itself that if you select an artillery unit it'll show you its range of fire. It would be better if this was integrated into the editor, but does remove some of the guesswork. I think you might only get this is if you've enabled the option for the pilot to control ground units.
Bahger Posted December 24, 2010 Author Posted December 24, 2010 Thanks ndp. Yes, there's a ruler, but no indication of range for arty units.
Spartan1-1 Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Wikipedia. Not the best solution but it works for me. swift Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 Not tested, but in the folder "DCS A-10C Beta\Scripts\Database\vehicles" take a look at lua config files, specifically the variable "GT.WS.maxTargetDetectionRange" seems to be range. I found this values and apparently match the wikipedia, data in meters: 2B11 120mm 'Mortar' = 10000 SPG 2S1 'GVOZDIK' = 40000 SPG 2S3 'AKATCIA' = 40000 SPG 2S9 'NONA' = 30000 SPG 2S19 'MSTA' 152mm = 40000 SPG M109 'Paladin' = 40000 MLRS 9K51 'GRAD' = 21000 MLRS 9K58 'SMERCH' = 70000 M270 MLRS = 32000 2
Bahger Posted December 25, 2010 Author Posted December 25, 2010 This is very helpful, thank you. Also, I've noticed that Beta 4 incorporates range/detection circles in the ME for various indirect fire units, which is very welcome.
