-Ice Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 With all the info presented in the dialogue, the stock tutorials aren't really "ideal" for just practicing bombing runs and weapons deployment. I'd rather study from the manual while the sim is paused (ala F4AF!) rather than have to sit through repetitions of info I don't need or understant. I was wondering if anyone can whip up a simple training mission where one could theoretically practice with all weapons versus all manner of targets? I was thinking maybe take off from Bantumi and have practice targets on the target area south of Kobuleti. For bunker or building practice, the buildings on Kobuleti would suffice. Maybe even have targets that are off the practice area to be able to practice on target acquisition. So, is it possible to construct such a mission? I suppose target placement would be easy, just put down a bunch of tanks here, some trucks there, etc. Waypoint assignments could be simple as well, with, say, waypoint 3 being the practice area for bomb drops on vehicles, 4 being Kobuleti for bombing buildings practice, and 5 being the general area where other targets are (target acquisition practice). Maybe even a waypoint 6 with a trigger that when the player approaches within XXX distance, a ground unit will call for assistance for JTAC. Then theoretically, the player can load up the mission, select payload depending on what weapon he wants to study and play with, start the sim (in tarmac for ramp start practice as well, but with options for runway or air starts), and then make his way to whichever waypoint he wants to practice with his ordnance. The ability to land back at Bantumi and repair/refuel/rearm would be the best icing on this cake. An orbiting refueling aircraft for aerial refueling practice would be the cherry on top! Granted that I have no mission-editor experience or knowledge at all, is this possible, or is it just wishful thinking on my part? EDIT --- sorry for double-posting, I posted this first on the Tutorials forum but I think it belongs here more than there. - Ice
Geskes Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 You could try the mission 'Weapons Training' that is a stock mission. It starts you on runway so you can swap out loadouts trough the ground crew and it has 4 or 5 target waypoints with different difficulty, ranging from soft targets, to tanks and active air defences. Also there are some user made training missions like tygers 'operation dane' or another one, 'training grounds' I think it is called. For JTAC / AI control the mission 'shooting gallery' might be a good one but also a lot of user missions have this included. 'Taking out the trash' is a user mission by badgher which is very nice for a low-threat JTAC practice scenario. textide Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 I'd advise you to just play with the Mission Editor and figure it out. You've overcome the biggest problem in using any mission editor, in that you already know what you want to do. The rest is just details. Plop a plane on a runway, set the skill to Player, change the waypoint type from 'turning point' to 'takeoff from ramp', then click the second icon to set your weapons loadout. Plop some bad guy tanks near an identifiable landmark and blast away!
104th_Crunch Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Just a friendly reminder that a question such as this should go in the DCS: A-10C Warthog section of the forum, not the Open Beta section for bugs.
-Ice Posted January 2, 2011 Author Posted January 2, 2011 Thanks for the clarification, Crunch. Was always confused as to which went where. So Beta for bugs, DCS for discussion. Geskes, thanks for the recommendations. I'll go try them out. - Ice
