Target Coords / Smerch Hunt Mission

Hi!

 

Just one Noob Question: Well, I did find the Smerch No1 and No2. Now I got contact with JTAC Firefly, him giving me coords "MN629528". Now i entered it as a new waypoint, and when I searched the area I found 4 AAA Sites, but no Smerch...

 

1. Was my approach correct to enter the coords "as is" into the CDU?

 

or

 

2. Is there still a bug in the mission?

having played that mission a couple times, my hints to you:

 

1) expand your search area. Use TGP in wide mode, thermal from about 10km out if possible to mazimize viewable area.

 

2) the Smerch is a wheeled system. Logically, it should try to stay on roads where practical. Focus your search along roads.

 

*edit* wait, the THIRD one... the one the SOF team gives you? Strange... I never noticed any AAA in the area, it's around the SECOND target, not the third. The third has, as I recall, a few infantry and a MANPADS system. It's tucked in a valley in the mountain foothills. Sounds like you input the information for SOME waypoint into your CDU, but you still have the waypoint for the previous target called up as your steerpoint. Make sure the waypoint you just created or edited is the one called up as your current steerpoint! It should be within a couple km of the "SOF route" waypoint (or something like that)

Oh my, this could be the reason... when I recall flying that mission, I was around WP 10 and not 11 as it should be...!!! :doh:

 

8 WP in FPL, 1st coords = 9, 2nd coords = 10, 3rd coords...

 

Stupid me.

I've flown that one alot also as it's one that "will" actually stay loaded and not crash. (can't wait til final version released) but I have had a variety of air defenses at different times. I had a SAM nearby once, then next time, no SAM site, but three AAA sites. I think it randomizes air defenses.
