Frederf Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 All the cool kids are doing it. I decided to place a TOT-locked waypoint at the short short line in the MP so I could takeoff on time, taxi "just in time", etc. (hint when RGS is in the 12-15 knot range, taxi at 15) As I was rolling around I noticed that the HSI pointer showed the waypoint wasn't exactly where it should be. So I rolled up to where it should be, and did an INU update on that waypoint. Now the INU went from being 100-200 off to no more than 10-20. Cool. If you want to do it at home the procedure is pretty simple. First you need a waypoint at a known location in the CDU. Then with that WPT selected you go to CDU>NAV>Update and press the "Proceed" LSK. Maneuver to the 2D position of that location and press the "MK/Update" button on the UFC. Tada! I then went and CCRP bombed through a solid cloud layer and completed the mission. Wheee.
Le0kong Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Not sure if i quite understand. Is that a way to skip the normal 4min INS align or is a way to increase even more the precision after a normal start? Can that help to reduce the chance of a miss during bombing? Frederf Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 Either or. In this case it was in addition to the 4-minute align. Bombing by blind CCRP onto coordinates would be improved.
