Hi everyone,

Don't know if this is the correct thread for me to post these questions n if i wrongly posted, IM SORRY!!

1) Does anyone know or does anyone have a night startup in Nellis base or any other airfield? Would like to try that.

2) Why is there a wait for the ATC to give clearance after you have requested a while back. Example: Last night, i requested for taxi clearance n waited at least 6-7mins. What i did, i started taxing then the tower gave me cleareance.

3) When ATC says, "Taxi to runway 30", where do i find the specific runway and how to find?

4) How do i get my Ground Crew to assist me in the startup procedure in RL. When i request for Ground Crew to start, i don't get a respond from them. All i can hear is my request.

Thank You in advance for your assistance.

Regards,

Gizmo :helpsmilie:

1) IIRC nellis was removed in beta 3, will be added later

2) i don't know about this one but my 2 cents goes for it being busy

3) the heading the runway points to

ex: rwy 30 will point to heading 300

rwy 24 will point to heading 240

4) you can't, ground crew doesnt assist in startup, the request you are saying is for the ATC to clear you for startup

It's easy to make one yourself:

  1. Open Mission Editor from the main menu
  2. Click the clipboard icon under the MIS heading in the toolbar to open up the mission briefing.
  3. You can enter descriptive information if you like, but the only thing of importance for this particular exercise to change the mission start time from 12pm to night (let's say, 3am), by entering 3 0 0 / 0 into the fields. (You might want to play around with the day number, which is after the slash; different times of the year will yield darker or brighter nights.)
  4. Click the airplane icon under the OBJ heading in the toolbar so you can add a plane.
  5. The default settings are for a US A-10C which is pretty handy, so just click somewhere near an airbase to put it on the map.
  6. From the "Skill" dropdown in the group properties dialog at the right of the screen, select "Player" - this will make that aircraft player-controlled.
  7. From the "Type" dropdown in the waypoint properties at the right of the screen, select "Takeoff from ramp". This will set that aircraft up for a cold start from the ramp. You can also select the parking spot number from the dropdown to select the location you'll start from.
  8. Click on the disk icon under the File title in the toolbar, and give the mission a slightly descriptive name, such as NightStart.
  9. Now you can test it out; click the blue icon under the MIS heading in the toolbar (immediately above the OBJ heading) to fly the mission.

Result is attached below.

Normally if they ignore you it's because you haven't contacted them properly, although sometimes they just ignore you.

3) When ATC says, "Taxi to runway 30", where do i find the specific runway and how to find?
In addition to the above comments, if you've got external views enabled you can hit F10 to get an overhead map of the area. Zoom in and you can see where you are in relation to the runways.

4) How do i get my Ground Crew to assist me in the startup procedure in RL. When i request for Ground Crew to start, i don't get a respond from them. All i can hear is my request.
As Lucas said, that option is to request startup permission from ATC. In order to do that, your radios must be working (i.e. switched on and tuned to the right frequency, unless using easy comms), which requires either ground power or the APU started, APU generator switch enabled, and of course the battery & inverter switches on.

Note that if your radios aren't powered or what have you, you'll still hear your own request (of course), but you won't receive a response.

There's a separate menu option for interacting with the ground crew. Turn the comms switch on the left hand panel to INTercom to use it. Or with easy comms, just use \ and I think it's F8 or F10 for the ground crew. They can refuel and rearm you, as well as hook you up to an external power source. Note that in beta 4, you need to be within a particular area (usually near the control tower) for the ground crew to work, so if they ignore you you're probably just in the wrong spot. Trial and error will yield the correct place to be.
