It seems to me like there are provisions for setting up the SHKVAL to scan automatically, just like a security camera. Am I correct, and is that option available in DCS BS? How to set up?

Uncage SHKVAL, pan to the elevation you want to scan across and bearing you want to be the centre of the scan. Press the Uncage SHKVAL button again and it'll start scanning. There's a knob on the right hand panel, at the bottom, to alter the speed of the panning.

There's no cleverness involved here. It won't identify targets or anything like that, just sweep backwards and forwards until you reset it.

Thanks guys, that's just what I wanted to know :)

The reason for asking is that I don't like to use the mini joystick on my CH Pro Throttle (Collective) as I find it too small for accurate control. Instead I am using a four-way switch on my cyclic, but keeping it pressed for too long causes the SHKVAL to speed up so much I cannot see what is passing by on the screen. -So I have to start-stop-start-stop.... all the time.

That's why I thought it would be much better if I could make it scan automatically at a fixed rate :lookaround:

I have never had a case of it panning too quickly, but then I do tend to do it in bursts so I can study the terrain.

Make sure your not zoomed in when panning, check the slew rate, not sure if that's for the auto-scan or the manual mode, I never touch it, but you might be able to turn it down to you benefit.

I am not sure how I have the controls set up for my Saitek (the button pressing method I mean), but I set it up in the software not in BS. It might behave differently.
