Nightcargo Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 From my searching I found the Starforce program uses a points system. A total of 12 points requires a deact/react cycle. The list I found indicated a CPU change is a 13 point hit. Requiring one to deactivate. I didn't see graphics card in that listing and don't know for sure if that list was complete. Do I need to deac/react for a graphics card change? What points does this change have associated with it? Thanks Asus Rampage II i7 920 @ 3.8 EVGA580GTX 6G Corsair WinVista64 Hog
PeterP Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Bump! LcSummers has the same question abut GPU hardware-points, and I couldn't find a answer. >>>http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1429084#post1429084
Jona33 Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 To be safe deactivate before installing the new card and then activate again. It won't cost you one. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
EtherealN Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 update bios , activation gone switch on or off HT , activation gone That's peculiar. I've done both of those things (and BIOS updates several times) with no adverse affects on my activation status. On graphics cards, I don't know, but I'll try to find out. KillaALF Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 My guess is that a new graphics card will probably result in a new Windows PID, so it'll cost you 3 points.
EtherealN Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Easiest way to find out would be to contact Starforce support, they're friendly people and will be able to say for abslute sure. PeterP Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 (edited) Starforce Support: Hello Peter, Our protection system does not binding to the video card. Therefore, if you plan to change only the video card, it is not necessary to deactivate your application. But if you plan to change the items from the list (CPU ID, Windows PID, Computer Name, Hard drive volume serial number, MAC address, RAM amount) it is better to deactivate this application. Thank you for contacting our support group! --Here is a updated list that should wipe away all confusion, because this includes the GPU. An activation will be required if the hardware/software changes exceed 12 points as rated below: CPU ID: 13 GPU : 0 Windows PID: 3 Computer Name: 3 Hard drive volume serial number: 3 MAC address: 6 RAM amount: 6 Edited April 3, 2012 by PeterP
