Whats to expect with 3 monitors...

Recommended Posts

I just ordered 2 24" monitors to go with my 26" monitor I currently have and I was wondering what to expect as far as FPS drop off. I have a single radeon 6970 right now (rest of my specs below) and I have my graphics set to high on everything to include bushes set to max, except for civ traffic is on low and I average 40 FPS in the cockpit under most circumstances. Just wondering what most people with 3 monitors are averaging with what video card and would it be worth running dual video cards. Also, any advise setting up 3 monitors would be awesome. I have never done a set up like this before, and I not going to lie, I am about as giddy as a school girls to set them up.:pilotfly:

I would also be interested in this, although I suspect this:

BS (I don't know about A10 yet as I haven't got it yet) is mainly CPU dependent and the GPU only becomes a bottlneck at high (above 1920x1200) resolutions. You don't mention what resolution these monitors run at (size is irrelavant on the performance side of things).

So let's pretend your going to be running at 1920x(3*1080) = 6220800 pixels compared to 1*1920x1080 which is 2073600, as you can see your going to be pushing far more pixels, so it's going to be GPU bottlenecked, but you have a good GPU, so it *should* be fine. I would be interested in the outcome and the performance you find during real world playing.

I used to be happy owner of Matrox TripleHead2Go Digital Edition which I was using in conjunction with 3xDell E228WFPc's (22" DVI-In LCD, native 1680 x 1050), preview at:

I was running that setup on a single 8800 GTX with 5040x1050 medium/high details withour any problems having roughly 30% FPS drop comparing with single 1680x1050 screen. I was shocked, as I was expecting that SLI would have to be a must to cover graphics needs, howevere gameplay as stated was smooth.

Don't know gameplay on DCS A-10C though, as I've sold TH2Go a while back but I'm sure that would seriously hit performance...

I currently run my 26" monitor at 1920x1200 but the new monitors I ordered from here http://www.goharddrive.com/ASUS-VE245H-Black-24-5ms-HDMI-Widescreen-TFT-LCD-p/g12-0006.htm will run at 1920x1080. So im not exactly sure what to expect. I couldn't pass up 2 24" monitors for $159.99 each with free shipping.
