Xxx Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 I am interested if any of you guys, who fly the Black Shark in Eyefinity, with three monitors, alter the "snapview" file in order to gain a correct viewpoint? In the below U-tube video, the poster describes editing the "snapviews" file? Just wondering if this was the typical edit to achieve a good result in Eyefinity? Vid here, with the details of the snapview edit below the video:- This like a "before I buy the hardware" question:unsure:. Also, I have not come across any needed edits in order for BS to run correctly in Eyefinity. Which I had always assumed it just ran "out of the box"? Regards. FingersMcSteal Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 My first post so bare with me... I'm 'Steve', the person in that video and spotted the question your asking, hopfully i can help a bit here. I've decided to make the move into eyefinity myself (thats a friends setup i was using). 1st thing i've been told, make sure the monitors have the Display Port adapters, apparently these are the ones to be using when you have multi monitors running. You can get adapters as well (if needed) but better to use the normal setup type thing. The card used for that video was an ATI 6970 as far as i'm aware. Thinking i could start by grabbing the GFX card, then the monitors etc stopped me in my tracks... always an upgrade to do 1st  To do this i'm going to have to upgrade my power supply to something around 1000 Watts (it helps power the card and everything else in the box), i've looked into monitors which have the Display Port connections and they seem to be running at around the 200 pounds (UK prices) each. Then the next part would be the card which runs for about 200 - 250 quid. All in all i'd be looking at approx 700 pounds worth of extras to have my own x3 monitor setup. The only thing i can recall about that setup of my friends was i recall him mention maybe a FOV (Field Of View) setting in a file somewhere. I'll see if i can get him to look at your post though, he might be able to help you more. 1
Xxx Posted February 27, 2011 Author Posted February 27, 2011 Hello Steve. Ah, so its you and your friend who are responsible for my interest in a multi monitor set up for this superb sim, Black Shark!!:D I will share what I know about the hardware, I have the following on my wish list:- 2 24 " monitors at 1920 x 1080 (1920 x 1200's are rather expensive) a 6970 card 1 Mini Display Port to DVI ACTIVE adapter. The plan is to run my current 24" monitor and one of the new monitors on DVI cables and the third monitor with the Active Mini Display adaptor cable. My PSU is rated at 850 watts, the 6970 needs 200 watts, from here:- http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-6950-6970-review/11 The question is exactly what needs altering in the BS lua files and what the alterations accomplish? I thought it would just be a case of setting up the extended Eyefinity desktop and then running Black Shark? However it seems there are "modifications" to do before the project will work? I need to understand how these work, I do not like trial and error!:book: Regards. DTWD Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 To do this i'm going to have to upgrade my power supply to something around 1000 Watts (it helps power the card and everything else in the box), i've looked into monitors which have the Display Port connections and they seem to be running at around the 200 pounds (UK prices) each. 1) You don't need 1000 watts, 750 should be more than an enough for that. It will also give you enough overhead for OCing. The biggest thing is go for a good brand, cheap 1000 watters realistically put out half that if your lucky. 2) Display ports just require an adapter to drive a none display port monitor. If I am not mistaken for 3 outputs you only require 1 active adapter and can get away with 2 passive adapters. Regards [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Xxx Posted February 27, 2011 Author Posted February 27, 2011 Agree Paul. 750 watts should be fine for a single 6970. The ports on the back are:- 1 x Dual Link DVI-I 1 x DVI-D 1 x HDMI 2 x mini DisplayPort So i'd go for two DVI and a Mini DP ( with an adaptor) Regards. DTWD Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Nah no need to go with the DP. Just get a HDMI to DVI converter, they about £3 :D EDIT: Ok that's 3 pounds, no idea why the forum has stopped recognising the code, but there we go. Regards [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
FingersMcSteal Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Yes i know a 1000 Watt PSU is probably over the top but i have plans to eventually upgrade everything in the box as well, just my personal choice etc etc. Display port adapters will work fine, just an additional cost for the extra parts etc, the general idea being if i myself were going to grab a setup like that in the video i'd prefer it to be newer equipment is all. Haven't had the chance this week to contact my mate yet but i'm sure the file had a setting for FOV (only %98 sure about that tho). The only other thing i can tell you is where the monitors are placed next to each other once you get into the game and start playing you don't seem to notice the fact that it's actually on x3 monitors (probably my brain Blotting out the black lines). Other thing i did notice tho, but nothing major during game play... if you notice when you watch the video clip... the far right + far left parts of the picture look more of a streching going on but while you actually play you don't really notice it to be honest. The box in the video was also setup with a raid setup of hard drives too to ensure faster performance but thats just a minor thing i guess. Personally i'd love that particular PC but thats probably because i've seen what it can do as far as gaming goes... alot of cash in there ;)
Xxx Posted March 3, 2011 Author Posted March 3, 2011 Hello Steve. The thread above, Triple Monitors.. has some interesting points. Mack has some edits for the monitor setting. looks like there isn't much else to set in BS. ( Hopefully) With the exception of your friends "snapview" edit? The ATI 6970 is the top card at the moment. Its the one I would choose, if I take the plunge and go triple monitors. Most say once you have it set you never go back. The aforementioned thread discusses some of the pros and cons. As you say you are after the newest equipment, there is a new ATI 6990 mooted that may have 4 GB memory.:smilewink: Not out yet but the version seen has a single, dual link DVI and four mini displayport 1.2 outputs. The displayports (being 1.2 spec) can each drive multiple displays alone, e.g. 3 x 1920x1200 if those displays have dp1.2 daisychaining ports (none currently do) or you have a dp1.2 distribution hub (again, none currently available). As future options go though it's the best. In terms of raw power then it should stack fairly well against the GTX580 if not better and exceed the 6970. High resolutions across grouped displays are going to pull it down as they would any card in complex 3d games but it should be fine for DCS BS and FSX. Just need the doe:music_whistling: Best Regards. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]i7 Haswell @ 4.6Ghz, Z97p, GTX1080, 32GB DDR3, x3SSD, Win7/64, professional. 32" BenQ, TIR 5, Saitek x55 HOTAS.
