The Flight Manual is available in PDF format in the start menu program group. It lives in the "doc" directory under where the game is installed.

Edit: while I'm posting... the key thing to understand with countermeasures is that you don't dispense chaff/flares directly; instead, you run pre-programmed dispense sequences (named A-Z). The jet has a bunch pre-programmed to start with, you can also program your own if none of the defaults suit your needs.

 

When the CMS is in semi-automatic mode, it will automatically select a dispense program suitable for whatever threat it has detected, but starting/stopping the program is up to the pilot. In automatic mode, it will automatically run the program. I normally find that too aggressive in that it'll use up your CMs even when you're not actually being threatened, but can be helpful at times.

 

As a concrete example, if you're running it on a target which you suspect is protected by MANPADS, you might want to start a program that dispenses one flare every second or two in order to make yourself a more difficult target. You do that by using the HOTAS CMS switch left/right to select the appropriate program letter, and then HOTAS CMS switch up (aka forward) to run the program.

 

The manual should cover turning the CMS on as well as programming a custom dispense sequence.
