I'm asking because after much agonising trial-and-error I have determined that, in one mission at least (one I made in the ME) the IR Mavericks (D and G) cause a crash notification on exiting the 3-D portion of the scenario. I have a high-end gfx card (Nvdia 285) with all drivers up to date.

I'm wondering if (i) any of you have experienced this and (ii) (here's why I am not posting this in the Crash sub-forum) if there are any tactical advantages/disadvantages with always equipping the Maverick H in order to avoid this problem.

The D and H have a 125lb shaped warhead and the G and K have a 300lb penetrator warhead.

AFAIK the penetrator is designed to explode inside the target while the shaped warhead expolodes on the surface and directs its energy forward.

In practice, they all seem to be one shot one kill. Perhaps the G/Ks are better for bunkers?

The Ds and Gs use IR sensors which will penetrate light cloud in the sim, so there is a definite advantage in light cloud and night missions.

No I haven't had a CTD with AGMs.

As I understand it, the heavier warheads are designed for hardened targets like bunkers, but I don't think there's anything in the game that can withstand a direct hit from the lighter versions. You might want to carry the heavier versions for realism if your target is a hardened structure, though.

Pretty sure it's been said before here that if one version of the seeker was universally 'better', then the other wouldn't be in the inventory. The IR has the obvious advantage of working at night, and can sometimes get a lock from a greater distance during the day. On the other hand, the electro-optical sensor can work better in certain situations.

Personally I normally carry two H's for daylight missions (one on each wing). It may be reasonable to take one of each type, in case you have problems get a lock with one. I think our Mavericks in-game are a lot more predictable than the RL ones though so that's not really an issue for me.

On the topic, I have had the odd crash-on-exit but I've never attributed it to the IR Mavericks. I will start paying attention though to see if I can spot a pattern.

The heavy warhead is also useful against seaborne targets.

I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
