I'm getting back into flight sims & very excited to see a FC2. I had the older Flaming Cliffs on my previous computer & flew w/ Saitek X52. The joy stick set up in the old game was easy and intuitive. However, I find the newer FC2 Controller setup in the options menu very confusing. Searching for advice. The game itself seems to work well on my box w/ 32 bit Win 7.

Thanks, Dan

Hi Dan,

I see this is getting to be an old thread and nobody has replied to you. There are so few people it echoes in here.

Anyway, welcome back. You may have solved your problem by now, but if not - read on.

I have just returned after an absence , too, and had some difficulty setting up my X-52, so I will give you the benefit of my experiences, if you like.

You can program the stick either in the in-game 'Options > Controls' section of the interface, or by using the Saitek SST program. Or you can do a little of both, I think. Preferences vary.

I used the SST software with great effect:

1. You must 1st go the controls window and clear any commands in the X-52 column which you don't want the game to control. I cleared everything, but I think you can leave the HOTAS axis' and it will still work. The advantage to this is that you can use the 'axis tune' function to create a response curve for your stick. In an effort to prevent any possible conflicts, however, I erased everything and went to SST.

2. In SST you can go to 'Control Panel > Deadzones' and create small zones in the center which will make control of the aircraft a little smoother. Unfortunately there is no way I can see to create curves, but I have not needed them.

3. In SST call up the 'Profile Editor' and create a profile (for each plane if you wish). I found that the Key Command List provided in the FC2 directory is inaccurate, and caused me much anguish until I figured it out: Most of the cmds are REVERSED so that it is necessary, in making the profile, to ALWAYS PUT THE MODIFIER FIRST! For example the list says that "Trim Right" is "/- RCtrl" but in fact the correct command is "RCtrl-/".

4. Additionally, SST is very sensitive to the timing of keystrokes. If you press 'RCtrl' and the press '/' you will not get a correct cmd, because 'RCtrl' turns off before registering '/'. What you need to do is HOLD DOWN the modfier key (RCtrl) and then while doing so PRESS the / key, releasing both at the same time. I found that by doing this I got the correct response every time. Test your responses with the 'Test Profile' function (the little cog at the upper right); it registers the on-off behavior of every keystroke.

Anyway, I've finally got my controls sorted and I hope you do too.

See you in the friendly skies :)

I'm in the same boat as dfabel01 and I have no clue how to set these controls let alone calibrate the X-52.... There doesn't seem to be an option in the controller setup through Windows and I really want to avoid the SST software for now. Is there anyway to do it?
