Ptroinks Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 I found this article when searching for some data on SAM deployment, and it was very interesting! It describes in some detail former Soviet SAM systems, the Iraqi IADS in which they were used, and how the U.S. and its allies defeated them. Lots in here I didn't know! The link is to the first part. Links to parts 2 and 3 can be found on that web page. http://www.sci.fi/~fta/storm-01.htm PS: Sorry if this is a repost... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Vekkinho Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Yeah, Carlo Kopp is not very popular here...there's this Kopp conspiracy theory blah, blah. Nevermind what peeps say, you better do your own research plus the link you've sent is a good reading! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
RIPTIDE Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Yeah, Carlo Kopp is not very popular here...there's this Kopp conspiracy theory blah, blah. Nevermind what peeps say, you better do your own research plus the link you've sent is a good reading! Well... I've said it before, Kopp is highly qualified and very well versed. But he does have an agenda. IN this piece I actually think he has left the agenda at home as it was outside the usual 'Oh Noes... China/Indonesia/Malaysia is invading Oz, we need F-22ooos already' theme. It's an interesting read! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Ptroinks Posted March 31, 2011 Author Posted March 31, 2011 Oh, I didn't realise that! Anyway, I didn't see any agendas in the article I posted (as you have pointed out). It's basically just qualified observations. I, for one, didn't know that the F4 was so widely used for SEAD missions during DS. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
aaron886 Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Well... I've said it before, Kopp is highly qualified and very well versed. Gee, hasn't seemed like it to me. :disgust: If you ask me, he's just a fruitcake who's misleading anyone who happens upon that website. It's not hard to provide information without his gross distortions of truth and baseless assumptions. I wish there was a way to get him to shut up.

He'll put on the 'Super Flankers are everywhere' theme. But in this case he gives a very good account of what happened. He even seems to have stuck to the official reckoning on many of the air losses that he was tabled there which I was mildly surprised about. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
