Gunnergolly Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Hello A month ago i purchased an ACER T231H Touchscreen monitor so that i could use the Halios software Worked great for about 4 days and then the touchscreen function on the monitor stopped working. Everything else works fine and the display is ok. I sent that monitor back for an exchange and have been using the new monitor (same model) for approx 4 days and now the exact same problem has occured !!!... "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" In device manager in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers listing it shows up as "Unknown Device" with an orange exclamation triangle. When i unplug the monitors USB plug and then plug it back in it comes up with a device has malfunctioned and failed to install properly message. I have looked on the internet for possible fixes and have tried unplugging my USB devices and then going into Device Manager and then deleting the USB plug symbols(Under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers tab). . Sometimes this cures the problem after i have restarted the computer, sometimes not. However if i do manage to get the touchscreen function working, often after i have restarted the computer the touchscreen function ceases to work again. Can anybody suggest any ideas before i have to send the monitor back and ask for a refund as my 30 day return period is nearly up. Just don't understand how two monitors fail in exactly the same circumstances, hopeing that the fix to this is something obvious. Appreciate any help....thanks.... Le0kong Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I never used this kind of monitor, but a couple things to try. Have you tried testing it in another PC? If possible. Are you using some default drivers that auto-detected in Windows when you plug, or are you using some driver that come with the monitor? Yomo Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I had a similar problem with a second-hand T231H. Connecting it to a powered USB hub or to the USB3 ports on my motherboard seemed to cure it. The only repeat occurrence I've had since was after accidentally connecting it to a USB2 port on the MB after moving the PC. No idea why it made a difference, or if it was purely coincidental, or even if the controller in the 230 is the same as the 231, but it could be worth a try if either option is available to you. MackTheKnight Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I have 2 of these screens and have never had an issue with them. Have had both for over a year now. I suspect your issues are driver or OS related. It'd definitely be worth trying it on another computer if possible. -Mack
Gunnergolly Posted April 3, 2011 Author Posted April 3, 2011 Hello When i plugged the monitor into my computer for the first time it automatically installed software, i then went to device manager and updated the driver. The monitor is connected directly to my motherboard, but i have swapped the USB plugs around but it didn't make much difference. I then plugged the monitor into my little netbook computer and it worked fine, i then connected it back up to my "main" computer and once again it worked fine ???....... Now i can't get it to fail !!!!................so i'm non the wiser as to why it's all working again ??... The monitor takes about a minute for the touchscreen function to work after windows has started, i maybe suspected that it might be something to so with ATI CCC not initialising it properly...........................will check the settings again when i have a bit more time. One little strange thing i have noticed is that if i don't want to wait the minute for the touchscreen function to initialise and start working then i can just start the Halios software and it starts working immediately ????... I have noticed that on my USB hub one of the channels has stopped working so i will be buying a new one when i'm next in town. Just in case that is introducing any errors into my computer. So it's working every time now i restart the computer, don't really know what went wrong but it certainly looked to be something with my computer. Will just have to see how things go.... Gunnergolly Posted April 3, 2011 Author Posted April 3, 2011 ......................Update............................. Monitor touchscreen function has failed again.... Have tried it again on my little netbook but now comes up with a "USB device not recognised error".....................same error as my main computer. Tried plugging the monitor into my powered USB HUB, but does not even power up the little green status lamp and computer do's not see the monitor. My HUB is about 5 years old through.... Have run out of ideas at the moment !!!... Thanks... Le0kong Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Since the same problem happen in in a different computer, is more likely that the problem is in the monitor itself. At this point i recommend sending it back. If you still want to try something else. Try leaving only the screen plugged on the USB ports, to test incompatibility with some other device you may have. What OS is on your main computer? Is the netbook using the same OS? bengo Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Faulty/loose USB-plugs ? Had that happen to me once : if I wiggled the plug it would disconnect. Other possibility : static electricity. I sometimes need to "ground" my MS Sidewinder Wheel so windows recognizes it again. I simply stick a paperclip in the USB connector, so all conductors touch the paperclip, and then touch a grounded objext (f.e. central heating radiator) with the paperclp . After that it starts to work again. Go figure. i7 6700k/GTX1070-8G/MSI-Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon/32GB DDR4 Kingston HyperX PREDATOR DDR4 3000MHZ Vengeance 1600/TM Warthog #6106/Samsung SB350_S27B350H/OCZ Agility3 SSD 128GB / Win10-64/TIR5

Gunnergolly Posted April 3, 2011 Author Posted April 3, 2011 Hello Both my Netbook and main computer are using windows 7 Home edition. Will try only having the touchscreen plugged in and see if it works ok. Have tried grounding the USB plug, but to no avail. I have replaced all cables but once again................ it just don't want to work no more !!!!... My 31 day no question asked return period is nearly due. So in the next couple of days in order to claim a full refund i'm going to have to box the monitor up and send it back......... I must have more money then sense as i have already ordered it's replacement (HP 2310ti 23"), hopefully i will have better luck with one of those. Trouble is it's hard work having to use the mouse again once you get used to Halios !!!!... Appreciate your replies. Thankyou...
