shelt Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Sometimes JTAC returns coordinates which consists of 2 letters and only 5 digits. When entering into the CDU it returns a error. Is a digit being left off or is a zero supposed to be inserted to complete the 6 digit number. I have seen this on at least one target in every mission where JTAC is used. I have noticed in some of the posts concerning LAT/LONG it was mentioned a zero had to proceed the first digit. Is this a bug or am I not entering this in the right format? mtuckner Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 (edited) I think it is a bug. A UTM or MGRS (military version of UTM basically) has to have an even number of numbers in order for it to work. The first half of the numbers is the horizontal grid number reference, and the second would be the northing reference. The two letters are the map sheet. You could theoretically leave off one number but it is not done anywhere that I have ever heard of, and it would be requested to give a complete grid if that was done. MN 568 030 would never be read out as MN 568 03. Edited April 3, 2011 by mtuckner
effte Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Nor would MN568030 (never spaces in a MGRS coordinate, if you want to be strict about the standard - we're not, where I'm using them in real life) be read out as MN56830, which is what DCS:A-10C does currently. ;) Unfortunately, it also reads out MN056830 as MN56830, so you've only got a 50/50 chance of guessing it right. It is a bug. 1 ----- Introduction to UTM/MGRS - Trying to get your head around what trim is, how it works and how to use it? - DCS helos vs the real world.
shelt Posted April 3, 2011 Author Posted April 3, 2011 Thanks for the replies, guess I'll try the zero both ways and hopefully that is what is being omitted.. Not sure if the fix will be included in the next patch. As a host of a server, JTAC will send data and the coordinates can be gotten from the TAD, but I do not think other players in MP get these marks, so they have to rely on the coordinates given. Gets to be a problem if they are missing a digit!
