Got a couple of questions on the effects of unlocking this CPU providing the extra cores are not defective. My board is capable of doing this and I know how I think ( turning on ACC ). What I would like to know is the effect on the temperature of the CPU after unlocking but not overclocking, I was going to wait until I bought an after market cooler but I could very well do with the extra performance from a quad core in some of my games.

Let me know your experiences with it and it would be even better if anyone has tried it on the stock cooling provided with the CPU. I just don't want to give it a try and end up burning out the CPU if that's possible ( I thought the pc shuts down when things overheat ).

Thanks for any insight.

After some extensive reading I decided to give it a try anyways. Unlocked fine, seems stable on the AMD Overdrive stability test and in a few games. Averaged around 57-58C with all cores on full load for 22 minutes, will this be safe until I can get hold of a new cooler?
