This is an excellent article by Tom's Hardware (a pretty good general site with lots of other info, too) that will provide a base understanding and some tips on tuning your card. I was aware of a lot of these items, but there were a few new ones ... plus it's a nice refresher. 1
Panzertard Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 A good read indeed, gives good insight what modes to use - especially it seem to indicate that anything above 8x is a vaste processing power, while hinting that 4x might be more than good enough for most titles. And 'override' settings via the control-panael for Nvidai / AMD is a vaste of time in most cases. Good thing you can control these settings from DCS now. I was aware of a lot of these items, but there were a few new ones ... plus it's a nice refresher. Hi, The sim setup my AA at 4x as a default as to my card. I scratch built my on rig last May. There is a lot to it. The process involves a lot of study just making sure all the parts are compatible before purchasing the parts. Actually the putting it together was the easy part, though a lot of it, for me, was all new. And afterwards I could look inside my 1st Internet capable machine, my old Dell, and I could see better how it was built and why things were the way they were. Yes, Tom's Hardware is a good choice to learn from. Fine tuning the software is what I find to be a larger chore. I have not seen much typed words concerning nVIDIA Control Panel: Manage 3D Settings and how to set it up properly, other than its guide. I have it set in default settings, "let the application decide" under "Adjust images settings under Preview", which to me, is a cop out. My next step to try and get better performance out of my GTX 260 card to play A-10C is to lower my video resolution as close to the ratio of my monitor's optimum settings and see what happens. (If I set it too far away from that ratio, circles look like ellipses.) I see guys play this sim with gear worse than mine and they do good, or good enough. Sinky Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 ErichVon: Have a look around in your nVidia control panel for a setting named something along the lines of 'GPU Scaling'. You want to set this to 'Do not scale'. This will stop your resolution being stretched to full screen if it's lower than native and will also keep it's aspect ratio. I use ATI now so I can't remember the exact setting in nvidia but it is there. It keeps your selected resolutions pixels at the original size so the game will look just as crisp at 800x600 as it would on 1920x1080 but the image would be quite small. Someone who's name I can't remember told me about this on these forums, used it ever since in DCS.
