FUgly Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 I'm a newbie to the better flight sims, and have just picked up Lock On Platinum. I am looking for a couple of pointers, and/or answers to a couple of questions on FC2 while learning the A10: 1. In the quick mission, I keep getting aced by the Russian KA50, as I can not pick it up amongst the background (I will not use the Labels). For some reason, when I try to cycle through the 'next' air target, I get nothing back.. and there doesn't seem to be any radar help. Is there a little trick any of you use that helps find inbound bogies, while trying to keep it real? 2. On the MK82 and AGM65 'training' mission, I have had instances where I am dropping my MK82, and blow myself up! I watch the replay of it from below and both bombs drop, so they don't appear to be the reason for my quick demise. Any ideas? 3. Has anyone else had any problems getting the AI wingman to respond to commands? 4. Is there a list of squads that might be adding members? If things go as planned, I might want to join a squad, learn the intricacies of the sim.. and if so, are their 'wars' planned and fought? Thanks for your help.. FUgly If it flies in a flight sim, I've crashed it!
bluepilot76 Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Hi FUgly, sorry I cant answer your questions, I guess the one about the mk82s blowing you up might happen if you are too low. Anyway my reason for posting is, if you want to learn the A-10, why not just go straight to DCS A-10C. I think you will find it better and easier for the following reasons (amongst hundreds of others). 1) The cockpit is clickable. This is much more realistic. For a beginner to flight sims this will help because you hardly have to remember any key commands. 2) There are good training tutorials, that are interesting. They get you in the air and explain a basic way to acheive your objectives. 3) Everyone is very excited about it, I expect if you made a post like this on the DCS A-10C forum, there would be 2 pages of posts by now. 4) I also got FC2 just before A-10C, and keep getting thwarted in my attempts to progress through the campaigns by frequent crashes. A-10C seems much more stable. 6)Flight simming takes up a lot of time, unless you have unlimited time you might as well get the best experience possible. That will be with DCS A-10C. Unfortunately I guess the min specs required are a little higher, but its a good excuse to treat yourself to a powerful new computer. I certainly did! Anyway if you decide to stick with lockon, it is of course a good sim and you will still have plenty of fun. Happy Simming! Technical Specs: Asus G73JW gaming laptop... i7-740QM 1.73GHz ... FUgly Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 Thanks for the reply bluepilot76. One of the reasons I selected FC2, was because of the multiple jet choices. I've always wanted to sit down and actually learn the radar systems, the multiple weapon systems, and the different flight characteristics of both the A10 and the F15 (I'm not into the Russian jets at this point). I think my rig can handle DCS-A10, its right on the edge of the recommended specs, but then again I keep going back to wanting to learn both jets. As for my height on the bomb drop that killed me, I was not very low, and after I died, I was able to watch both bombs detonate on the deck (both missed of course). If it flies in a flight sim, I've crashed it!
S77th-konkussion Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 FC2 is a good choice to learn the very basics of flight, the setup of controllers, and a VERY VERY basic familiarization with weapons and their systems in the cockpit. Learn FC, and learn it well- but try not to tattoo it onto your lobe so permanently that you can't transition to DCS. DCS is as close to real as it gets- and getting closer. FC is "EXTREMELY" limited in avionics modeling. There's a lot of creative liberty in use to fill in the modelling gaps of all FC planes and their systems- especially weapons & sensors. I recommend you spend some time in the Froggies to gain experience with the advanced flight model- which is still pretty kick ass even with DCS out there.
