Cobra360 Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Just wondering is anybody working on a correct AIM-120C model. The 120 in Lockon is the model of a A or B model 120. The C model has smaller rear fins.
D-Scythe Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Best solution is to enable transparent alpha channels in the current AIM-120C texture so that the last parts of the fins can be "clipped" by a skinner.
Cobra360 Posted July 18, 2005 Author Posted July 18, 2005 Would that involve much work? Time or skill wise.
D-Scythe Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 For the devs, no. They just have to open up the AIM-120 model, and enable the transperency with a click. Then a skinner needs to come along and just clip the fins, which is pretty straightforward. If it's not an ED skinner though, some mapping out of the texture might be involved.
Trident Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Alternately, just call the bloody thing AIM-120B in the sim :D Apparently that's what already is, capability-wise.
Cobra360 Posted July 18, 2005 Author Posted July 18, 2005 Very true, it's nothing better than an ARH AIM-7.
D-Scythe Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Provided you can hold your lock (not that difficult), I found that the AIM-7M actually has a better hit rate than the AIM-120 in LOMAC. SARH missiles in general seem to be overmodelled compared to how they performed IRL in combat (in Desert Storm and Ethiopia).
Cobra360 Posted July 18, 2005 Author Posted July 18, 2005 I have the exact same experience. I prefare AIM-7s to 120s. I don't mind holding lock until impact.
