If you have a simple web camera, you can also use FaceTrackNoIR (it's free), but it's a bit harder to set up. You'll need to install a virtual joystick (PPJoy) and set the axes correctly in A-10. I recommend first testing it in another sim, like Flight SImulator or Il-2. At least you'll get a taste of head tracking. The best head tracker available is indeed TrackIR and it's the only solution that allows you good control of the buttons and switches inside the cockpit.

 

But for simple panning, FaceTrackNoIR does a splendid job. I've linked the "on/off" button to my joystick and now use the hat switch for trim instead of panning. Also, if you have a HOTAS system, you don't have a hatswitch assigned to camera panning (by default), so face tracking is your only real choice.
