mooshim Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 I have armor... they're not moving... I've got a couple of predators and E3 awacs... I sometimes hear a tally bullseye call, but...only UTM coords when I ask for a nineline. WOuld someone lend a hand? VTJS17_Fire Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 In one mission, I had an OH-58 "Kiowa" and he was calling out some artillery, not moving. But anyhow, I can't reproduce it. kind regards, Fire Hardware: Intel i5 4670K | Zalman NPS9900MAX | GeIL 16GB @1333MHz | Asrock Z97 Pro4 | Sapphire Radeon R9 380X Nitro | Samsung SSDs 840 series 120GB & 250 GB | Samsung HD204UI 2TB | be quiet! StrongHarm Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Anything set to reconnaissance, transport, or AWACS. They have to have line of sight on the target before calling contact. You also have to have them set to a radio freq you'll be on. I like to put a predator over the AO on recon, and set his freq to AM 30 (default). It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

StrongHarm Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 But why did it gone with the OH-58? The Kiowa hasn't Recce, AWACS or Transport task. kind regards, Fire Actually, the key may be that they have a non-combat task so they're in effect calling for support. Try setting the Kiowa to task 'nothing' and reply with your findings if you don't mind. Bahger Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 One problem (I think) is that they will only call out a target once. So if your flight has a long ingress, you need to set the recon flights to arrive when their data is actually useful (i.e. in range). Can anyone confirm?
StrongHarm Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 I would agree with that Bahger. I think it would be nice to have a com dialog with any aircraft set to recon... 'report contacts, bulls' or 'report contacts, nav point adder'.. to repeat offset coords of anything line of sight. Would you agree? Sorry if I seem a bit thick, but just to confirm. A little trial and error seems to indicate that I will receive bullseye calls only as assets get line of sight to target...but cannot ask for this info at my "bidding". However, this vid seems to indicate otherwise-- where Fish Calls AWACS and gets a Bullseye call to a ground target upon asking for picture. I wouldn't mind only getting the call only once, but I would prefer being able to receive the call when I request it (as shown in Fish's video--where he seems to have a dialog with that asset). Thanks for the help. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Win7 | Intel Core 2 Quad | Q8400 @ 2.66GHz | 2.67 GHz 3.37GB of RAM 60gig Samsung SSD| GTX 570 "Operation: Bull by the Horns" "Bull Run 2.0"
StrongHarm Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 In his video, it is only coincidence that the AWACS gives the contact after being asked for picture. It would have reported contact once in line of sight if he hadn't made a request. The AWACS task is only airborn early warning, but being in a non-combat role it reports contacts as any other aircraft would, such as a C-130. It seems to be the case that both JTAC and recon units are "one trick ponies"; they follow a script and can be made to repeat it, but the AI is not truly dynamic or adaptable. It would definitely be good to be able to call them and ask for a recon update. Sometimes they give a very good impression of being responsive to an evolving threat picture, but from a mission designer's point of view there is a lot of trial and error and you do bump up against the scripting and limitations of the AI more than you'd like to.
