Case Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Check this link: http://www.astron.nl/dailyimage/index.html?main.php?date=20110513 An Aeroflot Airbus 319 flew over a radio telescope in the Netherlands and the telescope picked up the signals from its VHF data radio as unwanted radio interference. From the data the astronomers were able to track the flight in 3D. There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Case Posted May 13, 2011 Author Posted May 13, 2011 I would like to know what their first reaction was :P Who, the astronomers or the pilots? The astronomers were probably bitching that their observation was ruined by all the interference! There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
X-man Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 (edited) But shouldn't this be a usual problem over there? It's a relatively busy airspace right? Edit: Never mind, I read the link, it seems it's only Aeroflot's Airbuses... hmm... Edited May 13, 2011 by X-man 64th Aggressor Squadron Discord: 64th Aggressor Squadron TS: 135.181.115.54
asparagin Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Who, the astronomers or the pilots? Nah, the pilots didn't notice anything. The astronomers were probably bitching that their observation was ruined by all the interference! Or thought they're tracking some UFO :D Spoiler AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, MSI MEG X570 UNIFY (AM4, AMD X570, ATX), Noctua NH-DH14, EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti XC3 ULTRA, Seasonic Focus PX (850W), Kingston HyperX 240GB, Samsung 970 EVO Plus (1000GB, M.2 2280), 32GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4-3600 DIMM CL16, Cooler Master 932 HAF, Samsung Odyssey G5; 34", Win 10 X64 Pro, Track IR, TM Warthog, TM MFDs, Saitek Pro Flight Rudders
Speed Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 But shouldn't this be a usual problem over there? It's a relatively busy airspace right? Edit: Never mind, I read the link, it seems it's only Aeroflot's Airbuses... hmm... Well, there are in fact certain important bands reserved for radio astronomy. I'm guessing this was bleeding over into one of those bands pretty strongly since it must have been coming in their side-lobes. Bout the only significance of this article is that apparently, a commercial air liner type is going to be interfering with a few radio astronomy observations. Intelligent discourse can only begin with the honest admission of your own fallibility.
