bloomstomb Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 (edited) Thanks guys. Watching a tutorial video, and it asks me to do this, cant figure it out. Anyone? Here is the video. Also this guys hud looks different than mine, thats why I was wondering if I have to set the hud to ILS steerpoint to look like that. Waiting for someone to answer me. THanks. EDIT also in this video he sets his course knob to 124... why 124 and not 130 (as the book says)? Edited May 17, 2011 by bloomstomb
bartleby Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 If you look at his hud, the active waypoint is 0 - init position. So he's just set his waypoint to where he started. That might not be advised if 0 is set on the ramp, though. The dashed box around the steerpoint box indicates that he's hooked that point in his TAD. Importantly, though, he's not flying with the hud. ILS bars don't come up there. He's using the steering bars on his attitude indicator. Try this if you want: using the CDU or UFC and repeater, go to NAV then click DIVERT. A list of the 5? closest airfields will come up. Select whichever you want (note: I don't think you can select further ones. So make sure you're within range if you want to do this). Your steerpoint will be set to the runway and some airfield information will appear in your CDU. If there's an ILS system, it'll give you the frequency. Then set it, unstow the steering bars, and fly the glideslope. As for the course, there's been some discussion of incorrect headings on here. I think it comes down to an issue with magnetic variations, but suffice to say, some headings are off by up to 6 degrees. Someone on here made a great set of airfield diagrams, try downloading those. They should have correct headings on them. DCS Wiki! :book:
bloomstomb Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 NO I dont have any problems setting the steerpoint to the place Im landing, I thought he was talking about something else. I set first knob to MISSION, 2nd to steer, (after I find out what waypoint # I am landing at) then I change the steerpoint to that waypoint through the cdu on left panel. But watching that video I thought he was doing it another way , but its clear in the video its set to initial waypoint :/
