Greetings all,

 

I've just started fooling around with some mission creation. I'm trying to create a MP mission so i and other virtual Sqn fellow can practice, so, so far i was able to pretty much learn the basics, creating WPS for pretty much each lvl of difficulties and so on, now i wanna add an AWACS and a TANKER flying around to add realism a bit to it and being able to practice mid-air refueling.

 

I'm trying to add some AI F/a-18's to escort the AWACS on it's path and some other Hornets escorting the TANKER or simply make them as they would be waiting for refueling also, my problem is, i couldn't find the proper way to make them following each of their assignement, for some reason even if i make for exemple the hornets on the exact same Flight path as the tanker they ended up going i don't know where and why but not following my path at all, and i can't exactly find how to place them on the map.

 

In other words, how can i make a 2 diff Flights with escorts and fighters flying together in wither close formation or farther.

At the moment its just not possible to add different aircraft types to the same flight group. Due to the different turning radius of the diff types of aircraft even when set to the same speed, they will not follow each other closely. You can do it for maybe 1 or 2 waypoints and thats it I'm afraid.

 

If you want to make the F18s refuel then just set their fuel state low at start. As for getting them to follow in formation over many WPs , not possible I'm afraid.

what you could try is using the eta on waypoints, to set that to the same time? though, both the awacs and the tanker, i'd guess would have an orbit waypoint?

 

If so, i'd sugest giving the fighters an orbit waypoint too, but at a higher altitude, and a bit away from the tanker \ awacs, so it'll be a cap waiting for tasking

heres a tip. Set you Flight leader to a little less fuel then his wingman. That way the Flight leader will go to refuel and the wingman will follow.

 

I tried it before and the wingman went to refuel first on his own then the FL came afterwards and it looked messy.

Thanks all, well acutaly i let go of the AI, i simply wanted them to add a bit of realism but i ended up taking them off, now i gotta try to connect in MP mission, seems i'm having a hard time to hook up the boom in MP harder than SP as post on a diff thread. :joystick:

I suppose it might be possible to create a logic loop where the tanker/awacs is set to their orbit path and the escort flights use waypoint switching, higher overall speed, and a orbit temporary orbit commands to sync back up with whoever they are escorting.

 

Basically let the escorts reach the end of the tanker orbit first, they then start a circular orbit. once the tanker gets turned around, the escorts orbit is stopped and they head back to the original WP and orbit and wait for the tanker again. It should keep em mostly synced, but it won't be them flying formation escort.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.
