flyboy3771 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Hi Everyone! I have finally made the decision to purchase DCS A-10 and I'm really excited to lift of. I currently have the bit download from the DCS website running but have a question. I have not purchased the game yet, I'm actually confused as to why and I can begin the download without a purchase. I plan to buy it on their website tonight so when I do will it simpley email me a key to put in my already downloading DCS A10 folders? If I have to re-download after I purchase I will most likely just buy it on steam but I figured the bit file would be a lot faster. Thanks so much for any help and I'm open to any suggestions. Look forward to flying with you all, thanks again. Flyboy3771

flyboy3771 Posted June 7, 2011 Author Posted June 7, 2011 Awesome! Thank you so much! I will wait for this to finish downloading and will then purchase the file from the website. Is there any disadvantage to not using steam by chance? or can I still use steam with the website download? :pilotfly: Cool Smiley hehe
cichlidfan Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Is there any disadvantage to not using steam by chance? or can I still use steam with the website download? :pilotfly: Cool Smiley hehe To the best of my knowlege, I have not tried it, you can add the game to Steam like other games BUT, the Steam overlay that allows chat and such does not work with the 64bit version of A-10 (unless you are unable to run it, you want the 64bit versioon). Before you ask, the download contains both and gives you the option to install the 32bit files. If you do, you will end up with an icon for both 32 and 64bit versions and can execute either. I assume if you have a 32bit system it does not ask and just installs the 32bit, never done that either. No disadvantage to not using steam as far as the game itself is concerned, plus ED gets all of the money instead of just a cut if you buy it direct.;) ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! EtherealN Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 In my personal opinion (as an avid Steam user), there is no advantage to the Steam version. The reason is that Steam does not fully support 64-bit applications, so the advantages of Steam are not applicable to DCS:A-10C, including copy protection, overlay, "community" and so on. They won't work until Valve makes a new, 64-bit, version of Steam. flyboy3771 Posted June 7, 2011 Author Posted June 7, 2011 That makes sense. I have 64 bit asus laptop so will just use it outside of steam. Does make it more easy to alter files etc if I need to apply updates down the road. Thanks again for all your help. Even if steam was a better option I would rather give all the money straight to the DCS team for making what seems to be a great sim. The Flight Sim community needs all the support it can get.
