Anyone has a number what is a reasonable success rate for getting the bomb on the targets when launching CBUs in CCRP mode, from fairly high altitude? CCRP from high altitude seems to be a typical scenario for most multiplayer missions I have tried out; usually there are air defense assets on the ground which means staying reasonably high (>12-20k ft depending on threat).

Obviously this is not a fool-proof method of delivery. It's hard to keep the CCRP indicators perfectly aligned (when near-aligned it is some times even hard to see which bomb line is which), plus I would expect there are wind effects etc. that cannot be anticipated by the plane's computer (if modeled in the sim) which means even perfect alignment could land the bombs off the intended impact point. What I am wondering is - what is a reasonable success rate for a skilled pilot to get the CBU to the right spot with CCRP, when launching from 12-20k ft? For me it seems to be about 50-60%, which feels too low - then again 100% feels too high.

Also, are there better techniques than CCRP to drop CBUs when flying over a defended target?

Yes, CCRP becomes rather useless above 12000ft, if you have to go higher, use WCMDs (CBU 103/105)

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Ah ... good to know, thank you for the feedback!

I was watching you drop those CBUs. I think your attack method needs work. First, consider dropping as much ordnance to destroy as many enemies in one pass as possible. This droning around at 15000' when your guys need you RIGHT NOW is silly. There comes a time when you don't want to do it, and this time was it.

Don't drop single clusters - pick a spacing, drop both bombs in one pass.

You could have used TGP + maverick to eliminate the AAA threat, but setting your CMSP to AUTO and rolling in with clusters would have worked fairly well along with a dive to make a more accurate CBU drop.

War is a risky business. Take them risks where required and be more aggressive.

With all due respect to GGT -- it's true that CCRP becomes less effective with altitude -- I have often dropped CBU-97s using CCRP effectively from 15k to 18 k when there are SA-9s co-located with the targets and I have no Mavericks left. For me the trick is to slow down. You stand a better chance hitting your targets when approaching straight and level, nice and easy, at, say, 230kts indicated, rather than screaming in, which widens the margin of error.
