I have set up a HOLD point with a stop condition determined by USER FLAG NOT SET i.e. I've cleared the checkbox in the dialog. This doesn't work and whenever I save the mission the checkbox is reset to ON. (not sure I've explained this very well!)

Anyway if you've followed me, is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Might be a bug. You can always use the "Group Resume" trigger action to get the same result. Or perhaps set another flag to true and when User flag is true the stop condition executes.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

yep that checkbox hasn't worked since beta. As long as you just uncheck it the once it should work even though its ticked again next time you check it. Confusing eh! I usually set flags to true when I want to do something though as opposed to the other way around. Makes it easier when debugging if you stick to one method.

I've worked around this using a trigger zone.

I was using NOT SET in this case as I'd already used the same flag SET elsewhere!
