bonemarrow Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 First off, pg 308, it says that for OSB 18, when something is hooked, the top line displays "HOOK", the bottom the rotary selection. On Fig. 227, pg 309, the MFCD picture shows OWN on top, HOOK on bottom. Inconsistent... but not really a big deal. My main confusion: it says when a symbol is hooked, the SPI symbol will be placed over it, and a hook line will run from it to the OSB rotary selection. Considering that, looking at Fig. 227 makes no sense. It shows a waypoint symbol as the hooked symbol (SPI symbol over it) and OWN as the rotary selection... yet the hook line runs from ownship to the BULLSEYE symbol. This makes no sense to me. I keep thinking that maybe in the diagram, a hook hasn't been made yet, that perhaps the WP is simply the current SPI. But it seems to me if there's a hook line present, there must be a hook, and that must have the SPI symbol. I find this all very confusing... but I'm sure I'm probably overlooking something very obvious, so could somebody point it out. Thanks.
Alexrey Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 The manual is a load of sh*t. I know a lot of people will hate me for saying that, but there are just so many mistakes that it is beyond ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, I love the sim and I love ED for making it, but next time they really need to devote more time to the manual. Fig. 227 is just one of their many mistakes. If you mess around with the hook types whilst flying it should become apparent after a little playing around what each type does. The manual does explain it well though (minus the typos).

Use the Active Pause and sit in the air and mess with it. It makes plenty of sense, the manual text, if you look at, and mess with, your live TAD while reading it. bonemarrow Posted July 18, 2011 Author Posted July 18, 2011 The manual sure enough messed me up and I can see from the replies here that I'm not going crazy - damned manual... but it did get me off in the right direction. Like you guys say, it's all about going up and messing around with it. I should have just done that before posting here. It's obvious, after messing around with it, that the OBS 18 button is all about TO/FROM info and cycling through all the combinations between hooks and symbols. It's actually quite useful. I thank you guys for the feedback!
