Private-Cowboy Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Hello there, I got a new laptop (primarly for work) that has plenty of power (Sandy Bridge i5 with 2.5-3.2GHz, 8GB RAM and a proper SSD). It has no dedicated GPU (only the SandyBridge HD3000) because it's meant for work and long lasting battery (fullfills both greatly). I wonder it I can run DCS on this system since I love simulations. I ran 3DMark06 and got 5000 points if that is anything to go by. I know this is not a gaming machine and I don't intend to play Crysis or similar junk on it. But sims like DCS are more dependent on a powerful CPU than on GPU are they? Anyone has tried running DCS on IGP with powerful system otherwise? Thanks in advance.
GGTharos Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 No, you can't. You can try, but you won't like the results. And sims are dependent on both. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
EtherealN Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 It will run, but as GG says: you won't like it. I highly doubt it'll be much fun playing on such a system. derammo Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Not to revive an ancient thread, but just in case anyone else googles their way to here: The game runs fine on Intel 3000 with latest drivers. I did a clean install of 1.2.16 and ran it on my laptop. The graphics end up looking funky (z ordering or normals issues) but it works fine for testing or to run as a server. You don't even have to turn off 3D rendering. Fullscreen did not start up for me, so I modified options.lua to set it to fullscreen=false and specify a window size via "width" and "height." Now I can use my laptop for testing or mission editing while we are playing on the "real" computer.
