Stunna
Why after a while does the Shkval fail to designate a target? When I shoot my ATGM, they go ballistic to the ground. I thought I saw something about the laser over heating. If so, how do you cool it? Thanks!
Beagle One
Laser emitter temperature depends on environment air temperatur. To cool it simly shut it off. At higher temperature the cool down time is significantly longer while overheating in winter is rare. This is simulated accordingly. So simply activate laser only for designating and leave it off the rest of the time, otherwise laser might shut itself off at the most unconvenient moment. EtherealN
You cool it through not using it too much. After launch, there is a countdown on HUD, let that countdown complete before releasing another weapon. Also, don't range when you don't have to, and if you want to be on the safe side you can do what Beagle One indicates - turn off the laser entirely when not needing it. Bucic
All re laser RF overheating has been discussed on the forums in the past. Please use the forum search. I'll try to dig up something from my old notes when I get back home. https://akaagar.github.io/briefing-room-for-dcs/ F-5E simpit project https://forum.dcs.world/topic/318106-f-5e-simpit-cockpit-dimensions-and-flight-controls/
Isegrim
There are two laseres used in the Targeting system in the KA 50. The laser range finder needs 3- 8 seconds for a Range measure. And produces massive heat. The second one is the Beam ride laser which leads the Vikhr into the Target. It produces much less heat than the range finder. After a range finder use the countdown in the HUD is about 8 Seconds 3 second range finding and 5 seconds cooling. You have to wait till the countdown is 0 befor firing your first Vikhr. While Missile is in Flight there is a countdown displayed in the HUD it shows How long the Beamride laser is active ...more Distance = longer active Beam ride. The Missile will hit the Target by around 6 seconds before the Beamride gets inactive.(at bigger Distances it can be around 4 Second). So long the Beamride is active the Range finder is inactive. U can use this 6 seconds still active Beamride to pic up a new Target in the Shkval without using Range finder this produces much less heat. But you should have an eye to the Distance Displayed in Shkval if it gets smaller fast the Beamride maybe isnt long enough active to lead your Vikhr into the Target. Another way is to fire the Vikhr first and Track the Target right after that. But Those Tips are only usefull for Groups or Convoys when the Targets close to each other and You are in or nearly in Hover. You have to use the Range finder when you moving much or u find a new Group or Convoy. If you dont use the laser and u are searching for Targets with the Shkval switch it off till you need it. Edit: Using the GUN needs much Rangefinding but there are also ways. :smilewink: Edited September 3, 2011 by Isegrim "Blyat Naaaaa" - Izlom
Bucic
I've used laser reset mapping in my Saitek SST profile http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=53213 I don't remember why but I assume I did it for a reason :) https://akaagar.github.io/briefing-room-for-dcs/ F-5E simpit project https://forum.dcs.world/topic/318106-f-5e-simpit-cockpit-dimensions-and-flight-controls/
