Heerven Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Hi I have this problem and couldn't find any where the solution. My steerpoint on the HUD is often in the air around the horizon line but in the right direction. Because of this, it's very difficult to acquire target with TGP when you have to slave it on the steerpoint and and manually slew it down verticaly toward the potential target. It's happening to me not regularly but very often. For example The first mission Hide out, the first steerpoint (waypoint ) it's ok but the second one is in the air and the third included those who has the target (3,4,5 etc) and I didn't change anything (I think). Any idea or a link someone?, Thank you
JG2_Miller Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 (edited) The steerpoint has a wrong programmed height. To solve this, go to your CDU on the waypoint page (Scratchpad FUNC + 3, then steerpoint). Select the waypoint in question and enter a height of 0 manually. Then it should be displayed at the ground and the TGP should also slew onto the actual WP. Edited October 19, 2011 by JG2_Miller
Eddie Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Waypoints are 3 dimentional, they are there to not only allow you to navigate across the ground but also to aid you in flying at the correct altitude. Many mission designers will place flight plan waypoints not at the altitude they want you to fly at along each leg of the route (as per real world), and will use things such as additional waypoints (not part of the flight plan), JTAC, recorded voice messages or pop up messages to indicate target position. And sometimes, they won't, and you just have to do the pilot thing and use your own brain to work out where the target is. The target is rarely (if ever) exactly at the steerpoint anyway in all but very simple missions that are not much more than a training range. Now with that said, you can either adjust the altitude of the waypoint via the CDU (see the manual) so it's on the ground, or just create a markpoint at the waypoint and then set that markpoint as SPI, markpoints are always at ground level.
