Random System Failure at Start - Su-27

Is there a possibility of random system failure at the beginning of every mission? Because I've had missions where I started with hydraulics failure. Makes it rather difficult (read: impossible) to land the aircraft, and to maneuver. Note that this was right after hitting the mission start button. I was not in control of the aircraft for longer than 1 second at the time of failure. Also, is there a way to land a hydraulic-less plane?

To first question, the answer is yes.

 

About landing, yes you can land a crippled aircraft, just go a little faster and keep the approach angle more acute than what you would have it with hydraulics.

That's actually really cool. However, to land a plane without hydraulics requires that I land a plane without landing gear, apparently... Which is tricky in a game that doesn't simulate friction with the ground and a fair bit of luck.
