LASTE Wind entry error (?)

I recently read a post about entering wind details into the LASTE component of the CDU to improve dumb bomb delivery. I followed the guide but when I get to the bit where you have to enter the altitude for the wind data I start with line 1 as 00 (ground level). This is fine. But when I enter 06 (for 6000ft) it goes in as 03. I tried 09 and this goes in as 07. I'm confused, does anyone have an explaination.

AFAIK the system stores wind information only for certain pre-set altitudes, presumably 0, 3000 and 7000 feet going by your description. If you enter a different altitude it's 'rounded' down to whatever it actually wants to accept.

Tl;dr: Wind data from the Mission Editor is in metres, has to be converted into feet/knots for the CDU, and other things besides.

 

Also it seems that the CDU will only accept certain inputs for the altitude field.

However it's easy to calculate wind speed and temp for different layers: basically 1m/s = 2 kts and temp go down 2° C every 1000ft high more.

 

I don't know if you really need to add 180° to wind heading on CDU.

This is needed only about heading declared form ATC or JTAC: they call "wind from" direction; opposite, wind direction setting into ME is "wind to":

I'm really not sure if CDU's wind heading input is "wind to" or "wind from".
