Smasher Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I've noticed that the Mavericks don't like to lock onto a target until I get pretty close to them. I know there is an command to make it lock on an area but, I had one of my mavericks skip off the top of a tank and blow up right behind it, leaving the tank unscathed. Is there a setting that I am missing. Also... I've noticed this a few couple of times. When I got to watch the track of the recording of the mission I just finished, that track has me crashing half way through it and is not a representation of what I flew at all. Does anyone know what is causing this? I don't have a clue what I'm doing
FreeFall Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 No weapon is 100% accurate. Maverick can miss a target. About the "lock", I think it very much depends on the target/background contrast. It's very normal that you don't always get the lock easily. Just repeat TMS up short, or slew a little. I've noticed that the sim track recording keeps missing at least my Helios inputs. So saving tracks is useless for me. They are "parallel reality".
Smasher Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 Thanks for the help Gents! Torment Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Force correlate can get your Mav to potentially lock on further out, just make sure it's not too far or this missile won't have the legs to reach it. You set it by placing the boat switch in the middle position and then TMS up. The D model doesn't have this feature. How the hell are you able to play this in Afghanistan?? FreeFall Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Also the Pointing Cross should be near the Tracking Gate in order to have a good lock. That area is sometimes called "The Keyhole" (because of its shape). Steer your aircraft so that the Pointing Cross is within "Keyhole".
Blizz003 Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Maverick can miss a target. I've never had a maverick go anywhere other than exactly where it was pointed... now... I've accidently aimed at the building beside the tank...or mistakenly fired off two missiles at the same target (thats a really annoying mistake) or (only once, I can tell the difference now) killed a whole M1A2 platoon in one flyby... they got mad at me for that... No fault of the maverick. It doesn't care what you are trying to kill. It just kills. i7 860 @ 2.8GHz, 12GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 5700, SSD, X52
Torment Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Just from playing, I've only had it happen very rarely. I think twice I've had the missile lose too much energy and not make it to the target. I'm digging, but I think I had one miss but it may have been in beta...however, I've seen countless posts/videos stating that the maverick can miss. I just get hits 99.999% of the time :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Mobo: ASUS Crosshair III Formula / CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE @ 3.4 GHz / RAM: Corsair XMS3 8GB / GPU: HIS Radeon HD 6850 Display: Sony Bravia 32" HDTV / Peripherals: TM Warthog, Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals, TIR5, Bose A20, Mini fridge w/ Yuengling
