skoner Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Hello guys i don't know why my cbu 97 or 105 drop is inaccurate in crosswind even if my Laste wind date's set correctly cbu97 and 105 is generally not effective weapon? in crosswind situation?
WildFire Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Well the computer cant account for the drift the launchers experience once they open their parachutes and fire the rockets for elevation. So yes they are accurate, but once the chutes come out, they drift away. As an effective pilot you should be taking wind speed at ground level into account and dropping your cbu's accordingly. The other day with a 5 knot wind I took out 10 targets in one single cbu pass. So its definitely possible. I'm calling it luck but whatever.
Rider1 Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Look at the ground for smoke from destroyed vehicles near your target area if possible. Adjust your aiming offset to let the wind blow those tiny little parachutes of love and joy over your targets. Smoke from nearby smoke stacks and chimneys may also be useful for Kentucky windage calculations.
Leto Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Before entering the OA I help myself with the following: 1. Acquire wind heading and speed in briefing and/or CDU (WP page) at low alt 2. Set wind heading on HSI with "Heading Set" or "Course" knop (if not needed otherwise, I set "Course" in wind direction and egress heading with "Heading Set") 3. Crosscheck with indication given by smoke from chimneys or burning targets 4. When desired target is point in TGP check with north arrow indicated in TGP right top 5. interpolate wind heading and speed to achieve new TGP point Setting the wind in the HSI is an easy way to visualize wind direction at a glance. As a pilot you always want to keep things as easy as possible to have highest possible (brain) resources available.
