Conure Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Hey all, So wee have the Nevada terrain coming soon(ish) and was curious...How close is the Nevada terrain to the Middle East (I know I'm being a little generic) and roughly how large is it (the map I mean) - is it feasible to get the experience of flying in Afghanistan (I know, long missions, boring etc..But I'm the kind that enjoys transatlantic real time flights on fsx) - or is the scenery completely different? soupyc Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Depending on how much of the area they model, you could theoretically model missions after Middle East/Afghan operations. I attended a Land Surveyor event in 2004 that described the similarities between northern Nevada and Afghanistan, which were remarkable. However, this will likely be Southern Nevada only, which would be ideal for desert ops. I think something like 95% of Nevada is BLM/Government owned, so either way you'll have a lot to work with. :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] The voice of the F-14 "Ambush" Trailer and F-14 Tomcat Instructor Pilot My Rig: Intel i5-7600k | MSI Z-270A PRO | 16GB DDR4 2400 | MSI nVidia GTX 1660 Ti | Saitek X52 Pro | TIR 4 w Pro Clip
Revelation Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Nevada is similar to Southern Afghanistan. You will need to add in patches of trees and other vegetation to represent farms. They are supported by rivers, wells and in some places the "run off" of a nearby military base. You will also need to add in buildings that are similar to ones you would find in Afghanistan. You could modify Area51 to represent say Kandahar Air Field(KAF). Using Nellis wouldn't be that good with the city nearby, too much work. Area51 could work with much less modification, mainly adding in T-Walls and HESCO barriers. A-10C's flew out of KAF all the time. It was a great time after the rocket attacks and getting to see the A-10's straff the enemy positions outside of the wire.
