You're designing your own a/c? :notworthy: I am but a pebble in the sole of your shoe. :D wow, man...

The rotax 912 engine for the amphibian in your link alone costs 15,000 usd! Again, if you can afford something like that plus the a/c kit then I highly suggest you take a gander at Rutan LongEZ. I got a ride in one and it was just a magnificent little airplane. It's a tandem two seaters and front pit gives that in-a-fighter feeling. If I had money I would buy it in a heartbeat--50,000 for an air worthy one. I have been obsessed with it for years.

Oops. Way off topic. Forgive me but I truly love the idea of me owning one of the Rutan EZs. :D

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

If PPL is the goal, how good the gliding is becomes largely irrelevant. It becomes a stepping stone on the way.

Careful not to stride out of your depth here. That's not true at all.

Aaron886, I've known people that did exactly what I described. They need okey thermals for 1 week during their training. Then they get their license, move on to PPL, never touch a glider again. And get their PPL at a monthly salary or two less, total, inlcuding the costs for the glider.

leafer: I'm not doing it yet. I want to do it, however. Also, what I'd be looking for is most likely the (as yet incomplete) UL version of the linked plane, which will be doable with lighter engine options. Though as always there might be a difference between what I want and what the wallet ends up allowing. :P
