The region we have to fly in our DCS world sure is quite relevant if you ask me. An interesting read here. Especially the second page talking about how Abkhazia and South Osetia may become annexed by Russia.... :book:

what does ya'll think about the future?

Though much of it is speculation of course. Take with grain of salt...

Article is bad.

Sources add that a Russian military buildup in the region could result in the Russian military potentially engaging Israeli forces, U.S. forces, or both.
Not a chance.

There's a few things to consider:

Iran has a large minority of Azeri's. A few years back some romantic comments came from Azerbaijan about an alliance with the Azeri's across the border. This irked Iran (eg. Ali Khamenei been half Azeri) who immediately took a hostile attitude towards Azerbaijan and a positive one with Armenia, who also have fought a number of conflicts with Azerbaijan.

Israel comes into this because the Azeri's see common ground: Iran as a rival and possible threat. Also Irans proximity to Azerbaijan makes espionage operations from Azeri land an attractive option. Not to mention a base for a strike(s).

Russia's relations here are complicated. Much of the massively corrupt Azeri hierarchy get their bread buttered in Moscow. In one way or the other. Moscows likes the idea of a, broadly speaking, secular Sunni country, as opposed to a more extremist one. They'll defend Azerbaijan if they were attacked. They'll also defend Armenia if attacked, and have close relations with the latter, though this is tempered by Armenia's poor state of economy. Turkey is an issue aswell, as they'll want to defend their culturally similar Azeri's.

Georgia, could very well be bent into shape by both the US and Russia to accept substantial foreign forces on guard to defend Azerbaijan.

Oh.. and just to note, Azerbaijan has that sweet sweet nice stuff: Caspian Oil. ;)

Yeah the part talking about Russian intervention with Israel or the US was definitely laughable for sure. I only found interesting the part talking about Georgia and Russia. I read an article that Azerbaijan will deny any attempt for Israel to use any Azerbaijan airbases to then attack Iran. Will be interesting to see what develops.

Plus, If there were a big massive buildup of Russian troops there, Turkey would be having a fit. We would be hearing much more about it.
