Hi,

I'm the developer of GamePlan, just wanted to say that yes you can insert your own map images (from photo library or camera) and share them to your group instantly from within the app. The map is broadcast to the session when the host loads a new map and is then stored on everyones device so you can use it again to host another session in the future, even if you didn't have the map originally.

 

Or you can submit them to the MapLocker (via the website) for them to be verified and added into the app for the rest of the community to download.

 

There are currently over 400 maps in the app, but I'm interested to know what maps you would like for Flight Sims (there are no Flight Sims in the MapLocker at the moment). What do you guys play? How big are the maps?

 

If you can provide ones you would like to see in the app, we would be happy to add them to the system and credit you in the app. Maximum size is 2048px square.

I don't think you'll be allowed to distribute this map unless the author says it okay. But I could be wrong on that. We could always just upload this map and use it, correct?

Size of imported images can be whatever you want - the app will scale them down to it's maximum size automatically.

 

If you want to make them up to the max size yourself, then it's 2048x2048 @72dpi.

As long as neither direction is no more than 2048 then it's fine. They don't have to be square.

 

I have been making them as 24bit PNG files, and they end up around 4 to 6mb. This is fine tested on iPad1 and iPHone 3GS and up. Confident about Android too (I mean, at least similar kind of spec to 3GS) but as there are so many devices we have not tested on EVERYTHING!

 

In terms of getting 100's of miles into that size, I guess it depends what level of terrain detail you need. The ARMA map is pretty big and it's OK at zooming. Obviously you don't see individual buildings but it's enough to organise the troops! For flight, I guess you have either individual targets, or much larger 'zones' of importance. You can use the circle tool to create zones and you could use the target icon which has a precise centre-point for marking building targets etc.

 

Anyway I would be interested in your thoughts!

Hey guys. Just dropping in to give an update. Still struggling to find a source of Lock On maps. Might have to ask the dev to get anything good.

 

General progress update:-

 

We had great event – the "official launch" at the Multiplay Insomnia pro gaming event at the weekend (http://iseries.multiplay.co.uk/i45/).

 

Got loads of great feedback and loads of ideas for the future too!

And I have sponsored a COD4 team that are going to be using the app for planning and co-ordination and in discussions with another few potential partners, both as users and technical partners.

 

Starting to get some nice 5 Star reviews in the app stores:-

Just dropping in to say that version 1.1 launched today :)

 

We've added a lot of interesting new features and fixed a few UI niggles. The main thing is the ability to toggle an overlay grid (and select it's colour to stand out against your custom maps), NATO symbology (yay!) and some other icons. We also increased the room limit to 16 users and various other little features (as per post above).

 

We are now starting work on the next version which will have some of the bigger things people have asked for.

 

The price is now $1.99 / £1.49 so I hope you get chance to have a look at it and perhaps suggest what you want to see next!
